Thing is that the Lakers have missed the playoffs just 5 times since 1960. Think of that, the Celtics have missed the playoffs 13 times since then, 15 times since, and the Heat 8 times in their existence. The Lakers are the most consistent franchise in the NBA. One bad season is a drop in the bucket.

Here is the thing, the Lakers need to destroy and rebuild. I say their priority must be to do everything in their power to keep Dwight Howard. Hell I say trade for Kevin Love while he is cheap and coming off injury. Get young talent around Howard now, forget making the playoffs this season and start to rebuild a younger team. But let the record show that when it comes to rebounding and building a competitive team, no one has a history like the Lakers, no one.

Howard is not a franchise player...time to get that notion out ya minds.

gotta be honest, though...mike d'antoni is probably a worse coach than mike brown. and thats a pretty hard feat to accomplish. i think not hiring phil for this roster has the potential to go down as one of the worst moves in laker history.

he is a franchise player, just like how gasol was like a mini franchise player in memphis,

they acn be the franchise player, but that franchise isnt going anywhere. dwight should never be a first option in any team.

Yeah, I was kind of thinking that when they didn't even sit at the table with PJ even though it had been announced that they had reached out to him for the position after they fired Mike Brown.

Howard is a star, though I'd agree he's not a first option on offense. But right now, there is no better option to rebuild unless you can get K-Love for D12.

we're better off trading him LOL....rebuilding around him is straight suicide. the fact that were the Lakers means we'll always attract free agents, regardless. i can name u a ganga players i'd rather rebuild around over dwight right about now....as much as i always thought dwight was weak and overrated, i never thought it'd be THIS bad. he belongs on a team like the Raptors, straight up.

I don't agree. I think Howard needs to stay a Laker. The Lakers need to keep him. He is a piece, a very big piece. He can attract other players to come to the Lakers. Right now, a free agent has this choice if he wants to play in LA. Do I play with an aging Kobe and Pau, or do I play with CP3 running the point. That's not even a question. Now you have them ask, do I play with the best big man in the NBA, or the best point guard in the NBA. Now the question becomes harder. Keep Howard. He is a piece of that championship puzzle.

lol i rather kobe retire than see dwight signed to a max contract....as a matter of fact, i think both those scenarios go hand in hand.

have u watched the lakers AT ALL this season? we suck...and a big reason for that is because dwight's demeanor is the same as that of a 12 year old faggot. he's a joke, thats all there is to it. the system they were running for him in Orlando was PICTURE PERFECT. they didnt depend on him to score or create offense....instead, he was just there to play D and grab boards. 4 shooters spacing the floor, Dwight in the middle to pick up offensive rebounds for uncontested putback dunks....he sucks for everything else. literally, everything. dwight howard is 75% name value, 15% defense, 10% rebounds- 100% overrated. seriously, remember when emeka okafor was considered the better pick in their first 2 seasons playing? we might not have been wrong, afterall. i think okafor would be doin better with us than howard is doing right now.......to top off his lack of skill and overrated game, he has a TERRIBLE attitude. he is a clown who carries no intensity, has no killer instinct, feels owed, thinks he's special, etc....i can go on forever about how weak this dude is, but ima spare myself the time and effort.

lol... It'll take more than bargs to land Dwight. Perhaps a combo of Lowry+bargs+Ed davis+some picks, but anything short of that will not land u Dwight

I wouldnt want Howard.  He hasnt showed any ability to be a franchise guy like you said, or a player you want to build a team around.  Thats why I wouldnt sell the farm for him.

He'd be good on a team like the Raptors... No pressure like in LA and they can have success by doin what Orlando did, surround him with shooters and use him as a decoy on offense.

Right.  And I think this proves the importance of role players.   The Rodman, the Paxsons, the Robert Horry type of guys that were part of championship teams.

Also... I guess Van Gundy was a better coach then people realized.

good news for LA is they are now a 9th place team

meaning maybe they can move up to 8 and get raped by the Spurs in the playoffs
