7 years, 175 million ($25 milli per year until 2020).

Well Remedy, it looks like all of the trade rumors surrounding King Felix can finally die.

Don't worry, there's still Justin Verlander and Mike Stanton.

I was too busy rooting for my team in the post season to pay attention :).

But I will give you props for saying that Z (can't remember or spell his name) wouldn't trade Felix and being right. Although I do think there's still a chance Felix might be wearing another uniform before career ends since this deal ends when he's like 32/33 (which is mind-blowing) and should have a lot left in his tank, plus it's no garauntee that Felix won't find himself in the same situation Ichiro was in (keep in mind that Z was planning to overspend to get Justin Upton, if I were a Mariners fan that'd be a little warning that the front office might fuck up the future).

Anyway, with the King out of the picture, now every potential pitching-ace trade talk will shift it's attention towards future Yankees ace David Price 8).

What I'll say to that is Felix has played half of his career with Bill Bevasi, who might be the worst GM in baseball history (don't believe me, look him up). The guy traded away future all stars for jack shit, passed up on future draft all stars for jack shit, and signed crappy players like Carlos Silva and the crappy Weaver brother, and numerous others to horrible and undeserved contracts. What Jack Z inherited was a steaming pile of crap minus Felix and a few other pieces. Obviously, not everything Z has touched has turned to gold, but we have some great looking pieces at the MLB level, and by all accounts a top 10, and according to some top 5 farm system in baseball. We got Morse and Morales which will help this year, but the point is that the organization is moving towards revelence after being decimated by the Bevasi regime. Felix is loyal, but he's still one of the most competitive guys in baseball, meaning that he wouldn't sign this contract if he didn't think we weren't going in the right direction. The Ichiro example isn't a good one cause he played the bulk of his career here under Bevasi and the crappy bridge pieces we've used while Jack Z has been rebuilding. Plus, paying a singles hitter to be the franchise player was just a dumb move to begin with, he's much more suited for the role he has with you guys.People said he'd never re-sign here, then he did. They said he'd never re-sign again, and he did. What will it take for people to realize he wants to spend his career here? lol

Edit: As far as Upton goes, I think they looked at him as a high-upside guy in a crappy situation. He did have 30+ hrs a few years ago and is still very young. I looked at the trade as giving up a lot, but our farm system is stocked with good young players so I don't think it was an awful deal, although I would have been sad to see Taijuan Walker go.

IMO he needs to retire after playing with Seattle his whole career for people to believe he'll actually be a Mariner for life.

Look, while I do want to see if Felix can become the 2nd M's superstar who never wore another uniform, I'm not going to rule out the possibility of the logo on his chest changing in 2020.
Not in this age anyway where losing teams stop focusing on trying to win and focus on developing prospects and what their MLB talent could bring them in a trade.

And no I am not (and was not) trying to suggest that the M's current rebuilding process will fail. A lot of their top prospects should be able to pan out and help them go from being the team that's lucky the Astros are there to the team that can give the Angels and Rangers a run for their money. And like I said, I personally do want to see Felix stay with the M's his entire career.
Plus even if he does reach free agency in 2020, by then he'll be beginning his decline years and most of the attention should be on the next Rays' ace that Tampa can't afford to keep, Matt Moore (if he becomes the ace that everyone thinks he will anyway).

My bad, the way you were talking about it I thought you meant he was going to end up leaving before his contract was up. It just annoys me cause a lot of people just assume since we've sucked that it won't be any different even though our rebuilding plan should finally start coming to fruition this year.  Only time will tell, and who knows what he'll be like in seven years. Crazy how dude came up at 19, has the status of a veteran but is only 26. All I know is that he's not like Griffey, A-Rod, or Johnson, our biggest superstars that probably never thought much about spending their careers here. Our team in those few years before those guys left was leagues ahead of what Felix has put up with. The last three years we've had some of the worst offensive teams in baseball history and have been in the cellar in terms of attendance, so to me it seems like if he didn't intend to stay here he woulda just opted to be a FA or requested a trade like Johnson did. I think if he ends up leaving in 2020 it'll be an M's decision as not his, but it's too early to forecast. I just got so sick of the national perspective in terms of people that were so sure he wouldn't want to stay here, like Cham's bitchass who talked about how good he was going to look in pinstripes lol.

Damn just typing all this out has me stoked for baseball season.

As of this very moment I'm sure he'll be with the Mariners until this new deal is up. However I would keep my eye on where the Mariners go from this point on, as I suspect that if the Mariners don't find themselves in contention before the trade deadline in 2019, rumors will be swirling all around them (unless of course they've already worked out another extension).

And I've gotta be honest and say that I thought that he was going to look good in pinstripes as well ;) haha. However I'm all for homegrown stars staying with their team and since Felix doesn't pitch for another AL East team I'm okay with it. Now my Yanks can focus on the two stars wasting their time down in Florida, David Price and Mike Stanton 8).
