Really want to know 2pac? Check out this book....

I'm writing this for Pac's real fans at the forum.   I've read nearly every book and article written about 2pac.  I have to say this book exposes a side of Pac you can't find anywhere else.

Most of the time when people become wealthy or famous, their new life can sweep them up and make it to where they have less in common with ordinary folk.  This book tells Pac's life story before he was famous.

Legends like 2pac are not just created overnight.   They are a bi-product of their environments and the way in which they were raised.  For example, ever wonder why 2pac was so expressive in his music?   This book takes you inside the living room of his Baltimore apartment, where his mom and him kept no secrets, where anyone whether family member or guest could speak their mind freely about any subject.

There's a very telling story in the book, where Pac's mom Afeni, casually gives Pac $10 dollars to go out on the street corner and buy weed for her, as if it is something she's done dozens of times in his life.   The author (a friend of Pac's in Baltimore) then tells the story of Pac's interaction with the drug dealers in the nieghborhood, of their encouragement of his budding rap career, of Pac coming back home and joining his mom for a weed session, and subsequently teaching his new friend about their life in New York and the Black Panther Party.

It's loaded with stories like the aforementioned stories.  Stories about Pac arranging candle-light vigils for homies in the hood who were killed by gun violence, of Pac nearly getting signed to a deal when he was only 15 years old.   Of Pac battling other rappers in the hood, and so on.

This is definitely not for the casual Pac fan, but Pac's more serious fans will love this one.

2pac never claimed to be a gang member.  But he certainly had a lot of exposure to gangs and was likely affiliated.

He still shouted out the set constantly ("M.O.B., Big Suge in the low-low," "Fuck the rap game, nigga, this M.O.B.," "We claim Mob, M.O.B., if you be specific," "They could never take the soul of an M.O.B. soldier," "M.O.B. till I die, when we ride, niggas disappear," "Stick a needle if I don't live and die for M.O.B.," etc.).  It's not to far from claiming.

I haven't read this book, but it's probably a nice glimpse, like what was touched on in Michael Eric Dyson's book (Holler If You Hear Me).

He also yells "M.O.B. Nigga" in the outro to a few songs (can't remember which, maybe Lil Homies). That's the source of my dope ass username.

I read Micheal Eric Dyson's book.  It was also excellent.  He definitely did Pac justice in describing the enormity of his legacy.  But this book is much different.  It's not an effort to glorify or celebrate Pac's life.   This book is a very intimate and humble account of his everyday life in Baltimore.   It's the closest thing you could get to 2pac actually keeping journal entries of his daily life.

Yeah... I think he did on Don't Fall Asleep and also on Let's Get It On.

Perhaps, but Holler If You Hear Me did touch on that based on the accounts of some people he grew up with, like when he chatted with Jada Pinkett, who talked about how poor Pac was, and how he only owned two sweaters or something, slept on a mattress on the floor and was always embarrassed about how he lived, being hesitant to let her inside his house... and it's not like Jada Pinkett wasn't poor herself.

Mob Piru.  They say M.O.B. and Money Over Bitches.  Do you think he'd get an MOB pinky ring just like Suge's but have it rep something else while being on Death Row and around all these gang affiliates?

why would Big Syke (a crip) be on a song called M.O.B. if it was about being a blood?
