New idea I had...Coaches with the best all-time lineups?
« on: June 17, 2013, 09:09:59 PM »
We've all done the teams with the best lineups and it simply comes down to the Lakers and Celtics vs everybody else

but what about coaches?  let's go with 10 players for each coach...and you can ONLY count the time the player played under that coach.  I.E. just because Pat Riely coached Shaq on the Heat doesn't mean Shaq's previous dominance counts.

Here are the first 2 obvious

Phil Jackson:

G Kobe Bryant
G Michael Jordan
SF Scottie Pippen
PF Dennis Rodman
C Shaq

bench:  Pau Gasol, Derek Fisher, Ron Harper, Horace Grant, John Paxson

and

Pat Riely:

G Magic Johnson
G Dwayne Wade
F James Worthy
F Ewing
C Kareem

bench: Starks, Oakley, Mourning, Hardaway and Cooper

who else has a team that could even come close to these two??

The ONLY reason Jackson's lineup works is because of the triangle. If not, Kobe and Michael would fight over the ball, but Scottie can bring the ball up and the team could work from there. But man, that line up would have NO chemistry, but for some reason I think Jackson can make it work. Shaq at center would throw Jordan off because Jordan actually played the center in the Bulls triangle. You'd have to have Rodman over Gasol just to have some role players.

I LOVE the Del Harris one, brings back great memories of Chick Hearns and those Laker teams. I'd put Nick the Quick over Magic though, Magic was not half the player he once was, and Nick was just out his mind under Del Harris.

I guess I have to contribute a coach and his team....

Larry Brown

PG Allen Iverson
SG Reggie Miller
SF Richard Hamilton
PF Danny Manning
C  David Robinson

Bench: PG Chauncey Billups, SG Byron Scott, G/F Ralph Simpson, G/F David Thompson, F Sean Elliott, F/C Ben Wallace,C Rik Smits,

Not happening. I think the Heat's game plans are perfect for LeBron. Their pressing D is very hard to get pass, and their O is just really strong. But the rest of the team is not built for the athleticism it takes to run those schemes. The Heat are winning DESPITE themselves. And that falls on Riley to get those players. His job at GM is being exposed. The Heat may still win, and you can't knock going to game 7 in the NBA Finals, but it's all LeBron. The rest of the team is too old and too tired to continue this pace. Even if they win, the Heat are exposed. Unless Riley gets younger players, the Heat are not in the NBA Finals next year, Riley or not.

Oh, and actually, Del Harris coached more than just the Lakers. I knew the Bucs, but I didn't know he coached the Rockets. So here is Del Harris revised. (if we are going by JUST when Del Harris coached them, Kobe was still a very green kid who didn't average over 15ppg with him. Kobe started to shine when Rambis took over the team and then excelled during Jackson's reign)

PG Nick Van Exel
SG Eddie Jones
SF Terry Cummings
PF Moses Malone
C  Shaquille O'Neal

Bench PG Calvin Murphy, SG Kobe Bryant, G/F Robert Reid, F Earvin (Magic) Johnson, SF Cedric Ceballos, PF Ricky Pierce, F/C Elvin Hayes

I think we should set up some sort of tourny with this. I actually like this idea. Well, maybe not because Phil will always win, but then again it could get interesting.

You might be right, but right now there are only 10 players on those rosters.

i would prefer the Riles roster because of the versatility of positions, although a team with MJ and Shaq is just insane to think about.
