That album is amazing. The best production in hip hop in a long ass time. Earl got the best new flow since 50 cent

Nah, flow is to choppy to be the next Snoop. Earl though has a good buzz around the industry though. I see this dude as the long lost member of Hieroglyphics. There is just something about him and his videos that I could see him fitting there 20 years ago.

I disagree, listen closely his flow is unique and quick to recognize. Lyrics unmatched right now, maybe only Kendrick right now is on his level. He really knows how to produce something different, but at the same time very rooted in old school hip hop, good boom bap

Not saying he's not good. But the next Snoop is a bit much. Mainly because Snoop was a damn superstar from the jump, and people gravitated to his tracks. This kid is good, and I think he'll be big. I'll agree with your next point, but he's not the next Snoop. Snoop was a smooth flow, this kid has the boom bap like you said.

I compared him to snoop not because his voice sounds like him, but because his flow is very different and he just sounds like an intelligent person that knows what it takes to get his rap career exactly where he wants. He for sure doesn't sound like Snoop :P

But I get what you're saying. I just think he should claim he's the king of NY, now THAT would be interesting. There's even a 50 cent diss on that record, the one with RZA

Calling anyone the next anything tends to be a formula for hyperbole. Every artist means something different to each individual listener.

Don't see the Snoop comparison but yeah Hierohlyphics I can feel that.

Your are 100% right, and I chose the wrong thread title. Here's why I think he is just like a ''new'' Snoop Dogg. I think right now we are seeing a new golden age in hip hop. Just like every trend and every art form (see fashion), there is cycles that come and go.

Some artist can define a certain cycle because their work is just so representative of a certain era. I think if you look at the rap culture as a whole, you see a lot of up & coming rappers with dope new kind of beats and sounds and effects on voices. THe main problem, tough, is that they all sound the same, more or less. You got some rappers that are different flow wise that are able to produce music that sounds modern but still rooted deeply in hip hop (Wiz, Currensy, Kendrick, A$AP Rocky) but in my opinion (and that's only my opinion) they all got a little gimmick attached to them because they don't try to push the art form of emceeing. It's really hard to innovate in rap. I think Earl is capable of doing that by staying true to the vocal art form that is rapping, he is proposing something unique, the only emcee I can think of that ''kind of'' sounds like him is MF Doom, and he doesn't have the mic presence of Earl. Everything he raps just comes off so naturally and you can tell he really crafted his lyrics. His debut album is the most honest I've heard since the old school days. I can see young people following him starting to try and imitate what he does, to me that's a better thing than trying to imitate Lil Wayne, and that's what you saw the last decade.

That's why I compared him to Snoop, he obviously got a very different style
