shock combined more jazz elements into the music, so though there was a lot of funk, it was never the primary focus- more of an eclectic thing with digital underground, if anything. i'd say they were probably the best representation of all music elements combined into rap. jazz, blues, funk, even rock.....but the best representation of straight funk has to go to dre or hutch, since that was their focus in their heyday.

very true. i think shock g was a bad leader when it came to promotion. he turned down tons of commercials that would have made DU a lot more popular...money b said it pissed him off when shock turned down a Sprite ad without telling the rest of the group
