It's possible. The guy named "Mental" who 2pac commemorates was in a rap group with Big Syke in the early 90s - I forge their name - and he rapped in one of their songs: "my only fear of death is coming back reincarnated." That's where Pac picked up that line and he attributes it to Mental in a few places, I think on Only God Can Judge Me he says it and then says "that's for the homie Mental."

I gotta go with Ill Will. Nas has been reppin his homie since Illmatic and he was just a street dude / friend.
