West Coast classic no doubt

Quality of the tracks is mixed. Some of his best stuff on there tho

I always think you could make a classic with the best of his material. Somehow Xzibit never made one definitive album himself

Restless is hardly a hiphop classic. Very mixed bag

It's a Dre trainspotters classic tho

"Restless" is a Hip Hop classic.

was just going to say the same exact thing  8)

"Restless" is the hip-hop classic because not only was the album itself basically flawless musically but it had a big impact at the time when the West was still bubbling commercially with Dre, Snoop, DPG, etc.

"Restless" is a Hip Hop classic.

lol huh?

40 dayz>restless

but xzibit's first 3 are classic to me, either way...he took a step down as an emcee with "restless", but the top-of-the-line production made up for it.

Restless was just a generic Aftermath-ish record, 40 dayz is a stronger album and classic on lyrical side

I can see both points.

Both are transitional albums for X. To the mainstream their first introduction to X was Restless, and it was a hell of a intro. Classic album no doubt. To some of us older Xzibit fans from following Likwit Crew, it's a shame 40 Dayz did not get more recognition as it deserved but it's a classic album to me as well IMO. 40 Dayz is every much as lyrical as Restless if not more, but Restless is far superior production wise and star power.

I also find it funny looking back now at how much production 40 Dayz had from Aftermath producers (Budda, Stu-B-Doo, Focus, The Glove) but the big difference is Dr. Dre was more hands on.

It's a West Coast classic.

"Restless" is a Hip Hop classic.

For once we agree.

I think Xzibit got better with each of his first 3 albums, similar to what Eminem did with SSLP up until Eminem Show.   Yet like those albums, you could easily make an argument that any of Xzibits first 3 albums were his best.

I mean Xzibit's first record was sort of raw and unpolished.  Yet it contains the 3 greatest songs of his career, "At The Speed of Light", "Papparazi", and "Foundation".   The other tracks are pretty solid, but the album just doesn't sound like it was mastered properly, and I'm sure he didn't have the budget on the first one that he would have for the next 3.

Then, 40 Dayz and 40 Nightz is a very polished album, top to bottom.  The rhymes, the production, the videos, the marketing, the packaging, the mastering, it is a complete project and bangs out from top to bottom.

Till finally, we have the Restless LP.  The difference with this one was now he had the backing of the legend and greatest producer of all time, Dr. Dre, and the West Coast was re-surging at the time, Eminem came through and put in work...   All the stars were aligned perfectly and that's why that album is his most classic hip-hop album.

Restless was just a generic Aftermath-ish record

yeah, your right, shame on him... I mean.. it had that Aftermath generic-classic sound, didn't it?  Where every track bangs?  Where it's guaranteed platinum?  With that polished sound, with all elements coming together?   That generic, instant classic, sound of perfection?   ...shame on him
