The West Coast Hasn't Been This Viable In Years
« on: September 25, 2013, 11:22:39 AM »
I've had Sirius Radio for a long time. Outside of Rude Jude (mainly old school West Coast), DJ Skee or Muggs' show, you would rarely get to hear a West Coast artist. But, over the last year or so, I've noticed the amount of West Coast artists that are getting played regularly.

Outside of your typical Kendrick, Macklemore & Tyga, I hear: Nipsey Hussle, Problem, Audio Push, Kid Ink, Schoolboy Q, Ab-Soul, Sage the Gemini, Casey Veggies, and I'm sure I'm leaving out more.

Production wise, DJ Mustard is all over the place.

Obviously, some of these dudes are Commercial/Pop Sounding, but why aren't we supporting these artists here on this site? We're still discussing what some washed up rapper remembers about Tupac, almost 20 years ago.

hard to see kendrick as typical, to me hes still that little shitty wannabe west coast lil wayne known  as k.dot that evolved into his own identity

its funny how nobody on dubcc gave him love till the good kid maad city album.

im going to laugh if i get some conflicting posts, ive posted a couple of times about kendrick years ago and nobody gave light to it.

feels like yesterday, but so long ago. not sure if that contradiction makes sense at all.

It's this forum. It needs to be Dre/Snoop related to get any traction. Game was the same way. Hardly any mention of him when he was signed to JT, then the Dre Co-Sign came and it exploded. But, that's fine.

The reason I said Kendrick is typical, is because he is the most popular artist out now next to Drake. It would be redundant to talk about him over and over.

What about the others who are out there though. Any love for these dudes? If National Stations are pumping them up, why aren't we, as a West Coast Hip Hop forum, doing the same?

Yeah, but Game's shit with JT just didn't sound very good. He was one of my favorite rappers at one point but a lot of the JT shit isn't even bumpable. The Dre Co-sign is obviously huge, though. I wonder how many people would have even given guys like Bishop Lamont a chance.
