Author Topic: Daz about to sue Rockstar for using two of his songs in GTA V without paying him  (Read 1080 times)

haha, this is kinda funny / interesting..

according to kotaku and TMZ, Daz claims that Rockstar offered him around 4k $ to use his tracks "C-Walk" and "Nothin But The Cavi Hit" on GTA V. He turned the offer down and expects Rockstar to either raise the offer, or destroy any remaining copies of the game that have the songs on them and press the new ones without them.

Dunno how much truth is in this but I think if Daz really turnt their offer down - no matter how much they offered him - they just can't use his songs. You can argue whether Daz is a money whore here or just an artist who wants his rights to be fullfilled - but in my opinion, if he was a cool guy, he would say something like "You know what, my music is so dope, Rockstar even breaks the law for it"..

I read about this too, but it doesn't make sense. The budget for the game was in the millions. Rockstar was not sweating $4,000+ for songs. Besides there are so many West Coast tracks out there that they could have used, why would they illegally take these? That doesn't add up. Sure, companies can be shady at times, but why would Rockstar sweat THESE two songs?

Yes, I like both songs and I'm a Daz fan, but this doesn't sound right to me.

These muthaphukkas better pay up.

You Imbeciles thinking he should just "be cool", and say "You know what, my music is so dope, Rockstar even breaks the law for it". FUCK OFF that's his works, his art piece, his child, his making, his music, his lyrics, his SONG!.

Its a total different story if he turned them down BEFORE they released it without his permission. Daz has every right to claim 100% of all royalties now, after the fact they asked, were turned down, but still released it.

i call bullshit. Daz is a known liar and also well known for trying to rip off everyone.

Daz has every right to be pissed, he turned down the offer for the tracks to be part of the game and they still went behind his back and used them. I don't think it's even legal, unless they went to the labels who owned the tracks, which they prolly did. But Daz is only complaining about these two and not Ambitionz As a Ridah and What Would You Do which means that Daz has to have more than publishing rights for Cavi Hit and C-Walk, either way in the end it's free publicity for Daz Dilli and he might get away with some good settlement money. I'm guessing he ain't the only one to whom it has happened.

  • I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Chances are it probably didn't have to be cleared by him, I'm sure it was cleared by the labels and publishing. Rock star is wayyyyy too big and corporate to just steal something like that. They have 100's of tracks on there. I think Daz is just caught off guard.

I'm sure we'd be hearing of other artists/labels complaining if Rockstar were to outright pull jack moves. "What Would U Do" is also on the game.

yeah and Ambitionz Az A Ridah which Daz produced is also on the game and daz didn't bitch about them, which means that he doesn't have any rights other than publishsing for these death row owned songs.

but yeah i'm guessing they didn't have to be cleared by him, but in that case why approach him in the first place and offer him 4 gz and ask for his permission ?

one thing is sure though is that Daz ain't reliable lol and that Rockstar are corporate as fuck which means that they prolly did played by their rules, ie clearing songs and shit

I don't think we are getting the whole story. Let's say that Rockstar couldn't come to a deal with Daz... that's it then. There are so many West Coast artists who would have given an arm and leg to be on this project. I am sure that they were not sweating these two songs that hard.

There is either a miscommunication or one party is not being truthful. I'm not saying huge corporations aren't capable of evil, because they ARE. However, this doesn't sound right.

With all that being said, if Daz does deserve money, I hope he gets it. I hate to see people get cheated out their money.

Fresh Bone

Its a shame its come to this, love playing the game and hearing a lot of west coast classics.

a bit disappointed by the radios in V though, too many unnecessary tracks and stations who don't fit the game imo, i preferred when there were less radios like on III, vice city or san andreas with songs and hosts who really suited the atmosphere of the game and missions. the west coast classics is among the best stations though but i can't lie I preferred Julio G over DJ Pooh hosting.

I'm guessin C-Walk is being used because Antra don't exist anymore.
