Well there goes the Yankees's chances of resigning Cano. The Dodger's GM is calling Jay-Z right now and negotiating a contract for Cano's services.

At the same time you have to give the Cardinals credit. They came from a tough division, not the junior varsity "NL West" diivision, and they have lots and lots of depth on their roster. They have tons and tons of effective, faceless players who aren't superstars but at the same time don't suck. The Dodgers went with a combination of superstars and pretty shitty players and the better run team got the best of them. All in all, it was a good series/matchup.

Are you suggesting that Cano wouldn't be an improvement over Ellis in that lineup?

Thought they were gonna pull it off, damn. Still though, even without any new free-agent singings that teams going to be so loaded next season if Kemp's healthy.

Damn.

http://espn.go.com/los-angeles/mlb/story/_/id/9849972/clayton-kershaw-offered-deal-300m-range-los-angeles-dodgers-source-says

The Los Angeles Dodgers offered left-hander Clayton Kershaw essentially a lifetime contract in the range of $300 million -- "an A-Rod deal" -- earlier this season, according to a source with knowledge of its scope and structure.

The two sides were unable to finish negotiations, sources say, because Kershaw was initially uncertain about committing to a deal so encompassing, and about having contract talks during the season.

But the negotiations progressed enough that there is confidence among some with knowledge of the talks that a long-term deal -- perhaps more conservative in length than the massive contract initially proposed by the Dodgers -- will be concluded this winter, with a significant portion of money being devoted to a charity of Kershaw's choosing.

Alex Rodriguez's current contract with the New York Yankees is the largest in baseball, a 10-year, $275 million deal that could reach $305 million if he achieves all of its incentives.

Kershaw's potential contract is expected to be the largest ever for a pitcher.

Earlier this year, Felix Hernandez agreed to a seven-year, $175 million contract with the Mariners, and Justin Verlander agreed to an extension that results in the Detroit Tigers paying him $180 million for the 2013-19 seasons. CC Sabathia signed a seven-year, $161 million deal with the Yankees after the 2008 season.

The aggressive effort to sign Kershaw, who could be eligible for free agency after the 2015 season, keeps with the style of Dodgers' ownership since a group headlined by Mark Walter, Stan Kasten and Magic Johnson purchased the team for a record $2 billion before the 2012 season.

The Dodgers nearly tripled their payroll in the span of a year, making the biggest trade in baseball history -- in dollars acquired -- in dealing for Adrian Gonzalez, Carl Crawford, Josh Beckett and Nick Punto in an August 2012 blockbuster with the Boston Red Sox.

Kershaw, 25, was selected with the seventh overall pick in the 2006 draft. He has established himself as arguably baseball's best pitcher, leading the National League in ERA the last three seasons.

In 184 games, he is 77-46, with a 2.60 ERA. He won the Cy Young Award in 2011, and is expected to win again for his work in the 2013 season, which ended with a Game 6 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals in the NL Championship Series on Friday night.

Barring an injury I still see Kershaw getting 10 years and 300 million. He's still the best pitcher in the MLB.

I also see Robinson Cano in Dodger blue next year and Don Mattingly no longer being the manager.

The Dodgers are going to make two 10 year, 300 million dollar deals in the same offseason? Yeah alright lol.

The Yankees top priorities this offseason is Cano, some Japanense pitcher and Brian McCann.

Lol @ saying "all that talent" like the Cards don't have it. That staff is lights out and their missing Garcia. Filth.

Their top priorities are resigning Cano and waiting to see what'll happen to A-Rod. After they they need at least 3-4 more starting pitchers, a first baseman, a shortstop, an outfielder, a few more bullpen arms and a new closer.

At this point the only Japanese pitcher they should be focused on signing is Hiroki Kuroda and I don't see him returning, their name will always be thrown around regarding Tanaka but after the disasters that were the Irabu, Igawa, and Matsuzaka contracts they'd be wise to stay away.
And fuck Brian McCann. He's useless white boy who does nothing but whine and bitch about Latinos.

When did you hear this?  Last I heard that the dodgers have no interest in cano.  I read on other sites where yankee fans don't want the team to sign cano at what he's asking.  They'd be cool with him at 5-6 years for $150 at most.  See Albert Pujols angels tenure for why 10 years is a bad idea.

I was saying that with my tongue in my cheek.
And no team will sign Cano for what he's asking. I see him getting a 5-7 year deal that'll pay him about (or at least) 20 milli a year along a few incentives. And I just saw a report that said the Yankees are willing to spend (which for the most part I'm against) so for all I know Cano could be back with the Yankees next year.
I mean, I doubt that even Cano himself believes that he'll get a 10 year 300 milli contract, but seeing as how he is the biggest name and best available talent on the free agent market he can ask for whatever the hell he wants. You've gotta start somewhere.

offering anything over 7 years is absolutely retarded.  more retarded than a bus full of Elano's heading to the zoo for their family picnic.
