I think Peralta is actually a pretty good defensive glove, although nowhere near as good as Brendan Ryan.

But Cham might've meant as the Yanks' 3rd baseman to replace A-Rod, since the 3B market is complete and utter crap right now.

While Peralta's not as bad defensively as everyone thinks he is, he sure won't do any of the groundball pitchers any favors. Porcello and his xFip know all about that.
And in tiny ass Yankee Stadium where pitchers have to keep the ball low and induce grounders, that's a recipe for disaster.

Are Yanks really planning on starting Dean Anna this upcoming season though? That's a lot of faith in a minor leaguer.
