MLB Report: Phil Hughes Signs With Minnesota Twins

3 years $24 million.

Shame that Hughes was never able to put it together in New York. Wish him the best in the 2nd worst division in all of baseball.

On a side-note the Twins have addressed their rotation needs with Nolasco and Hughes. They won't be contending until the likes of Buxton, Sano, Meyer and Stewart are up in the majors, but their 2014 rotation will be a whole lot better than their 2013 staff.

I was wondering when you were going to do a Nolasco signing report, I was gonna comment on that one lol. Twins overpaid big on Nolasco, but they were desperate for pitching so it's easy to see why. Twins can have him, we have no use for him anymore and he was horrible at the tail end of the season and the play-offs when we counted on him most.

If Twins make a strong run for Tanaka, they can go from the shittiest pitching staff in baseball to an excellent one within one offseason.

Lol, sorry man. I thought about making one for Nolasco but sheer laziness got in the way.

And yeah the Twins definitely overpaid but this is the new age where the free agent market is getting weaker and weaker that's pretty much the going rate for starting pitchers. I mean the Royals overpaid for Vargas and I have no doubt that the rest of free agent pitchers like Ubaldo, Garza and Santana and definitely Tanaka will get contracts that make them look overpaid as well.

Back to the Twins though, I don't see them (or anyone for that matter) going after Tanaka (the posting system bullshit probably won't be settled anytime soon) but if they can get one more solid pitcher (reunion with Garza?) their rotation could be formidable one. I'm not sure who the "ace" of that staff is but with Gibson, Nolasco, Hughes and Worley the back end of the rotation should be solid.

won't be missed.  he's clearly one of those guys who could make it in a lower level market where there is no pressure but he can't in NY under the bright lights.  watch his ERA improve next year.

Just needs the right situation. Liriano was supposed to be the next big thing and it took him eight years to figure it out when he landed with the Pirates.

I would have kept him as a back end guy for the Yankees, but not for that price. Very replaceable.

Keep in mind that Liriano's 2013 may have been a fluke.

We'll see. Could be.
