the article discusses the possibility that the guy who shot the cop was not listening to tupac, but instead Gangsta NIP. interesting read IMO
Interesting article, thanks for uploading this! I can't believe Quayle's motive for trying to get 2Pacalypse Now off shelves. He admittedly said originally he was listening to this other rapper too, come on. Haha. And the transcript of his original testimony proved it. Jesus.
But neverless a little insight into that bit of the history of Pac.

props 2 @stevo for this

Actually, you have to understand how over-saturated the media is today.  Back in 2pac's time you only had a couple major media outlets for hip-hop.  His name would pop up on MTV every now and then, and you would catch word of him in the Source.. that was about it.

So, because there were only a few major outlets, it was a big deal when some drama went down in your life.   These days, with social media taking over and 1,000 channels on television, I think hearing another rapper has been shot doesn't even make anyone blink an eye.

I don't feel that to be the case as much as hip-hop was still relatively new to the mainstream and it was important. Violence in entertainment was a huge issue at the time as was violence in media. Hip-hop was this outlet for a lot of poor people who came from nothing to have a voice. I would agree on the social media aspect of your argument. Today, everyone has a voice so you really have to weed through a lot of the noise to find people with an actual message because so much of it is just utter bullshit.

Tupac was great because he was passionate about the argument and the debate. I think Pac, for all his faults, believed in what he was doing. There aren't too many guys I feel believe in it today and the few who do are not socially conscious about it at all. I think it's scary how the people who I view as being what hip-hop should be are not even artists but cultural critics like Charlamagne The God from The Breakfast Club or Star from Star & Buckwild. They are people who will call out artists out on contradictions in the game and the truth is we need people like this who are behind the mic and writing lyrics because as an art form, all artists complain about how it ain't what it once was but they don't want to grow.

What's needed is a rapper who is ready to put a scare into all the other rappers. Not some loudmouth who will just diss anyone and jump on any controversy because it sells records. Someone who will actually think about their actions and come up with plans for change.

Wasn't it something to do with Quincy putting his dick in white girls and making mixed raced babies or something like that
