OFFICIAL MLB SPRING TRAINING THREAD
« on: February 27, 2014, 09:43:33 AM »
First, let's celebrate, baseball is back!   8)  That means everyday I can check my smart phone for scores, and news and notes on my team and who is performing well...  This means I will never be bored for the next 5 months or so while waiting in line to check out, or on a long trip at the restroom!

So what is everyone looking for from their teams as spring training has now begun?

We got a couple position battles here in KC.   We have 6 or 7 qualified pitchers all vying for the 5th starter spot.  I really really like Danny Duffy.  If you look at his numbers he's performed very well.  Somehow, with injuries, and some control issues, he's downgraded himself from being a top prospect to now potentially being moved to the bullpen.  Very scary.  I really hope he cracks the starting rotation because I think he can be a solid #2 starter in this league, I still have high hopes for him.  Also, I love Yardono Ventura.  They say he can be like that guy Martinez that pitched for the Expos in the day, Pedro Martinez.  He's got a stellar fast ball, and is young, and has the swag of Pedro.   My suggestion is that they move Bruce Chen to the bullpen (because he doesn't go deep into games) and put both Duffy and Yardano in the starting rotation.

Also we have a huge position battle at 3rd base.  It's finally a "put up or get sent down" year for Mike Moustakas.  He's a fan favorite and I really like that guy.  He hit a homerun in a game I went to with my son and we really bonded because of it.   So I hope Moose finally lives up to the potential, but if he struggles out of the gates he could be sent down and never be seen or heard from again.  That's why the Royals have Danny Velencia.  It could very likely end up being a platoon situation with Moose and Valencia.

OTHER NOTES:

Can ya'll believe that Santana still hasn't been signed?  He pitched well for the Royals last year but I guess he was asking for something crazy like 100 mill and now nobody has signed him.

-Interested to see where Emilio Banafacio ends up.  I think he is very under-rated and will be an excellent pickup for any team. Still mad the Royals cut him to clear cap space.

Duffy's on the mound!  He just blew by his first hitter with a 94 mile an hour fastball followed by a 96 mlh heater!   8)

OOOOHHHHH SHIT!!!! Now Prince Fielder just went yard on Duffy and hit the ball out of the fucking stadium!  WOW!!

Anyway, great to have baseball back.  Listening to the game on radio now, been waiting for this moment all winter.

*Just realized Prince is now playing for the Rangers.  Interesting.  Nice to have him out of our division.*
