Whoa shit.. Snoop sang the hook on the O.G. version of "This D.J."!!  I'd love to get my hands on that.   I still don't understand how Suge could of had the power to tell Snoop or Dre they couldn't participate on Warren's album.   Suge didn't want Warren G anyway... so it wasn't like Def Jam was stepping on his toes.  And Dre should've had more juice than Suge and that's his little brother.. and Snoop is the star and it's because of Warren that they even met Snoop.  Just doesn't make any damn sense, all these years and still no explanation.

According to Big Hutch/Cold187Um Dre treated Warren G like a dog. If that's true, that could explain why he wasn't really interested in workin' with Warren.

This guy ( Dr Dre ) always had influence in the game.

If he really cared about..Snoop..Daz and Kurupt..Warren ..Rbx..Soopa..success would be much higher than today.

holy shit...a moment of synchronicity for me... I had a dream just last night and asked Dre this very question and that was kind of the response he gave me!  This solves the mystery.  Can you link me to the interview that discusses this?

Yeah, but that was before Warren G became a known name. When he got signed to Def Jam and went platinum, Dre said maybe he should've worked with him more or somethin' like that in "The Show". That's one of my favorite Hip Hop documentaries, but i haven't seen that in a while so i can't remember exactly what Dre said in it.

As for the interview, i don't have it on my computer anymore. I'll try to find it, it was an interview with Above The Law in some magazine.

In the Show Dre says, "They used to fuck around with the equipment (when we were making the Chronic) and I would come show them some stuff.  If I would've known nigga would fucc around and sell 2 million records I would've spent more time with him"

So... it sounds like Dre always gave Warren the tough love little brother treatment, and for some reason even Snoop didn't stand up to Suge on the Warren G thing.... and my own guess is they didn't want snoop spread too thin so they didn't green light him to do the hook on "This DJ"... but then later when Warren had success they came around to show love by appearing in his videos.... but for whatever reason Suge was still trippin on Warrens second LP and wouldn't let Dogg Pound be on the "What We Go Thru" joint... my guess is same reason that Suge didn't want his artists spread too thin.

It's called business. The Iovine deal is simple. You think these guys are offering to go halves (with their own money) on multi-million-dollar deals like Jimmy is? Not likely.

When it comes down to choosing between busting your ass to try and make someone else a bigger star off having your "produced by" credit and be indebted to working with them for the rest of your career so the fans don't bitch about you not helping them stay relevant or taking a check from someone else and letting them use your name to make you wealthier, I can't fault the logic.

It all goes back to the Prophetic summer of 96' source cover issue wit Dre.  He said... "Its time for Dre to look out for Dre."

Dres done so much for other ficcaz careers over the years.  Nothing wrong with Dre looking out for Dre now
