I'm from so Cal. Rolling through any of the malls out here without security doesn't earn you any stripes or rep.

Maybe not stripes but at least a little bit of rep, since it just shows that you're not being all scary, contrasting to some other fools who go with a carload of security guards just going to the drive-thru.  Put together claiming a gang AND being a rap celebrity, and people will want to test you... case in point, what ended up happening.  Plus it depends on which mall... if you're going to some place nice like the Grove, then who cares, but if you're going to a mall that a lot of people from the hood go to, then yeah, you might find yourself in a situation.  In my younger days, I've seen plenty of dudes get smashed at the mall, long before cell phones and social media.

This has a lot of truth to it. Yes, back in the days, lots of shit used to go down in malls. However, I don't think it's nearly as bad as it used to be. Clubs and bars are where shit seems to be going down on the regular nowadays. Anyways, yes, Game or really any rapper that claims, is going to get tested. Him rolling w/o security is a step up from the usual rapper. However, he doesn't quite have the rep that some on here would like to believe.

This isn't a recent development. In the 90's you had motherfuckers dissing each other left and right and we ended up with albums like the Chronic, Doogystyle, It's On, etc...

Clubs and bars are where shit seems to be going down on the regular nowadays. Anyways, yes, Game or really any rapper that claims, is going to get tested. I can agree with that.  As far as Game goes, the bipolar shit aside, he's down to scrap and hasn't seemed to back down in any physical confrontations he's found himself in (whether it's some result of his own actions or not), and the outcomes of those things haven't seemed to have become anything that is a bad look for him from a hood perspective, whether he won or lost... though that's not to say what he did was always the smartest choice.  For example, while Game should've taken the pass Rosemo and his boys were giving him, what he did instead was still a hood thing to do.

The funny thing is that in situations where he whooped on the other guy (i.e. Ras and 40), it seems like it's always the loser who ended up talking big in blogs trying to explain how the ass kicking they got wasn't really all that bad, while Game never really said much unless asked about it.  (Posting up the videos of the incident doesn't count, since the video is exactly what happened and not really biased or anything.)  And even when Game got knocked down, it was still the other guy (Rosemo) putting it out there, and Game wasn't trying to make excuses either.  But at the end of the day, Game is far from untouchable, plus a big part of whatever aura he has is mostly from the fact that he's a big guy, usually getting into it with smaller guys who are generally out of shape (again, Ras and 40).  If he was 5'8" and the same build, he'd have taken more Ls.

True, but their crews still went at it, from Suge and his goons coercing Eazy into signing Dre's walking papers to whoever from Ruthless started problems at Dogg Pound's video shoot on the golf course... though the individuals themselves weren't doing anything, but at the same time, Dre wasn't really with that lifestyle anyway, Eazy wasn't actively banging (and was a pretty small guy to begin with), every Dogg Pound related Death Row artist at that time weighed 130 pounds, etc.

But Kendrick's not that type of guy to begin with and doesn't claim to be, so yeah, in that scenario, it's irrelevant.  But when it's a battle-type situation, it does add a little bit to your argument, especially if you're rapping about who is more gangsta or whatever.  It's lyrics first (whether it's skill or content or both), then credibility/validity second.  For example, Pac wasn't exactly rapping like a highly skilled emcee on Hit 'Em Up, but he was throwing a lot of below-the-belt hits... but none of that would've mattered if it weren't true (or at least wasn't convincing).  Same thing with the Nas vs. Jay-Z battle... yeah, it was lyrical, but the truth about each other's street credibility played a role in what made it so interesting.

A lot of live battle rap today involves a lot of true facts and people backing up what they say, or at least the crowd believing that the guy is capable of doing what he's saying, particularly when it's between two guys who are coming from that type of background.  For example, take this battle rapper named T-Rex from Harlem.  He battled Arsonal, who is from NJ, in NJ, and he shouted out some NJ Crip named Wink Loc.  The next time Rex battled in NJ again, he was against a guy named O-Red, who actually brought Wink Loc onstage and, during his third round, asked the guy if he had ever met T-Rex, and he shook his head, which kind of made Rex look like a bitch trying to get some cool points in his previous battle for shouting out someone whose name he had heard before (or maybe a guy he knows actually knows him) but exposing that he didn't even know him.

Game hasn't back down from fights and the time he did get knocked out, he took his L like a man but I agree with you that he is far from untouchable and his size versus the dudes he's fought has helped. I'm not really sure what Ras was thinking. He's a little guy. Although size doesn't always matter if you know how to fight. I never got the sense that Ras was a good fighter.
