So he's a 6 inning guy, but in the first 6 innings he dominates. The pundits are calling it a mental thing, maybe its a simple pitch count thing. Whatever it is, he isn't a CG pitcher and never was. Its the job of the manager to work with that and make sure you have a bullpen pitcher to come in for 7 and 8. But I agree that a pitcher that cannot dominate the entire 9 innings should be left out of the best ever discussions. Of Kershaw's 21 wins this season he only finished 6 of them.

I think it's just people just trying to make excuses for Kershaw and so they want to fire Donnie Baseball. Which to me is dumb as hell. The guy just got you to the post-season. The Dodgers need to get a bullpen, especially if they know Kershaw is a 6 inning pitcher. They need to sign great set up guys and let them take over after he 7th inning, and they need a lot because only having "6 inning starters" actually is very draining to a bullpen.

But as long as we now know Kershaw is a "6 inning pitcher" then lets PLEASE leave him out of MVP talks. A pitcher who is a MVP, and is an all time great goes 8 to 9 innings a game.

Also, I know this, what I saw the Royals do to my Angels. My God! THOSE are some pitchers. Throwing over 100mph in the 7th inning! Yordano Ventura may have only been 14-10 for the season, and had a era over 3, but he looked every bit as dominate in the 7th as he did the 1st. I remember when the Angels won the World Series, many of their pitchers pitched to the 8th inning, then K-Rod can in the 8th and Perceval in the 9th. To win in the playoffs, you need your starter to finish the 7th with the lead, because just in case your 2nd, or 3rd pitcher struggles, then you take them out quick and then put in the bullpen. But that's your 2nd or 3rd pitcher. Your ace HAS to finish the 7th in the playoffs.

I wasn't giving him excuses, or calling him the MVP. I just said he is a great 6 inning guy who should be praised for what he is; an opener. Pitchers can be praised for being great closers, so they can be praised for being great openers too.

Because he is an ace, and aces are not great 6 inning guys. An ace usually can eat up innings and shut down the opposition. A true ace is a pitcher you put up there in a game 1, they go 7-8 innings, they shut down the other team and then you have your closer end the game. Not every team has an ace. but Kershaw is advertised as an ace, he gets paid like an ace and he should be an innings eater and a shut down pitcher.
