It's probably where he gets most of his royalty money from.  2Pac's Greatest Hits album probably still sells really well and he'll no doubt get some of the share.
Daz is actually quite shrewd when it comes to things like this.  He threatened to take action against Rockstar Games last year after they used one of his songs in GTA V without paying him the required amount that was agreed up front.

unlike snoop, daz's publishing was straight when he was on death row, so he must be getting a lot of residuals especially when you've produced four songs (and not the most obscure ones) on one of hip hop's highest selling albums.

Winning a lawsuit doesn't necessarily mean that you get the money, especially when it's not involving an insurance company covering liability.

That was the time period when Daz's interviews sounded a little bit like they involved crack.

Also, lawyer fees eat up a huge chunk of settlements. So even assuming that that was true, after paying his attorneys and Uncle Sam, the take-home after getting half ends up being a few million... which someone like Daz could burn through pretty fast.
