Detox will only have 12 tracks??
« on: April 03, 2003, 11:52:25 PM »
This is taken from the www.aftermathmusic.com forum.  apparently dre talked about more than eve being signed to aftermath.  i dont know if this is true, it could be a rumor.  if it is true, it might change also.  remember the hip-hop musical.

DR DRE SAID THAT SAID THAT HIS LAST ALBUM WILL HAVE ONLY 12 TRACKS BECAUSE HE SAYS THEIR ARE 12 STEPS TO RECOVERY FROM ALCOHOLISM. IF YOU LISTEN TO POWER 106 IN LOS ANGELES FUZZY HAD AN EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH DRE AT THE VIDEO SHOOT FOR 50 CENT'S SONG 21 QUESTIONS, WHICH WILL BE DIRECTED BY DRE AND PHILLIP ATWELL

bad news >:( :'(

Nope, PERFECT news.

12 tracks. No filler. No bullshit skits like "Car Bomb" or "Pause 4 Porno". No Bullshit tracks designed to create hype around the supposed "next big thing" (ie. Hittman's "Ackrite"). Essentially, no songs that don't have 100% reason to be on the final album from hip-hops superproducer.

What could be better than that? If the whole thing clocks in at under 60 minutes, this could be Dre's best yet. That's my prediction...

I FUCKIN H-A-T-E those skits IN songs !! damn, skits as extra tracks suck too, but you can skip that, but skits 'fore or after the real song on the same track is the worst thing ever done is rap ! lol!

god damn I really HATE this skit on fuck you on 2001. !
Cause I don't care where I belong no more
What we share or not I will ignore
And I won't waste my time fitting in
Cause I don't think contrast is a sin
No, it's not a sin

Don't get me started on a rant about overlong albums and excessive skits - we'll be here all day, seriously. Suffice to say that as consumers we should NEVER forgive Master P for convincing rappers and record labels that it's better to have 20+ tracks, a third of which are of highly debatable quality, and all of which fade when you'd like to hear the beat play out, rather than 12 consistent, well thought out songs and a playing time of about 45 minutes.

As for skits... can you imagine The Beatles saying, "Tell you what, John, get your missus in the studio and we'll record the sound of you two fucking then slap it in between a couple of songs. The fans need to hear it."

Nope, 12 tracks from Dre would do me just grand, cheers. Maybe a cinematic intro, but no car bombs, answer machine messages, drive-by shootings, shout outs, orgies, phone calls, commercials or arguments.  :)

Lord Funk is always on point musically.  I think we are the same age and came up in the same era.  Your right about Master P and No Limit.  LOL.  I remember when they first started doing that everyone was like, "Whoa, if there's 24 tracks, then there has to be atleast 9 tight tracks!".  When really there was still only a few.

Anyway, Nas Illmatic was only 9 tracks deep and that's one of the top 3 or 4 albums ever recorded.

THE TWELVE STEPS
OF ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS

1. We admitted we were powerless over alcohol — that our lives had become unmanageable.

2. Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.

3. Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him.

4. Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.

5. Admitted to God, to ourselves and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.

6. Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.

7. Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings.

8. Made a list of all persons we had harmed and became willing to make amends to them all.

9. Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.

10. Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it.

11. Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God, as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.

12. Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to alcoholics, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.

yeah, some of the greatest classics in hiphop only have like 10.14 tracks, like Doggystyle. So it doesn't have to be negative.

Well as long as it's 12 tracks of concentrated dopeness then this will be a classic. Hip Hop albums never used to be that long anyway, and it will certainly be better than an album like 2001 which had many tracks which could have been left off.

Albums should be 10 - 14 tracks, 16 MAX.

Anything else is too long.  2001 would look a hell of a lot better without the skits and that goes for many more albums.

I've never heard a flawless album over 16 tracks.

P.S. - I wish my copy of Doggystyle was 12 or 13 tracks instead of the 17 I got.
