YG has named Pac in his top five. And mentioned him a few times, particularly in Who Do You Love

YG's not intelligent enough to really love Pac. You need some brains to admire that nigga over everybody else.
But the other rappers are?

LOL word

I think Jeezy is an exceptionally intelligent rapper. He doesn't express his mind by using big words or anything like that, but his body of work is one of the most consistent and he is a pretty brilliant songwriter.

You can tell how much natural intelligence a rapper possesses from his interviews. Jeezy always drops game in his interviews and comes off as a sharp nigga. YG, on the other hand, has sounded like the most retarded rapper of all time in his interviews. He's barely comprehensible.

Jeezy is 37 years old.  I'd hope he'd sound halfway intelligent at that age.  Unfortunately we can't say the same about Floyd Mayweather.

Even if you think YG is a dumbass, it's not all that relevant to the topic.  You can still be a big Pac fan without having to dissect all of his lyrics, so I'd count YG's opinion.  Not saying that I put a ton of stock in it.

I feel ya, homie. I don't mean to diss YG - I like a bunch of his songs - it's just that I don't hear too much real influence from Pac in his music. His connection with Pac is more superficial, which probably reflects his minimal brainpower. Someone with a more potent mind, like Jeezy, is able to be influenced by Pac in a deeper way.

YG, as a rapper,  is more influenced by Lil Wayne than by Pac. the generation he's from (late 80's, early 90's) is more likely to be influenced by the likes of Weezy, Kanye, Jay and Jeezy than by Pac.

Jeezy, TI, Freddie Gibbs, Z-Ro, etc. on the other hand, are all late 70 or early 80's babies, which explains why they're the one who are the most influenced by Pac since they were in their teens when he was in his prime.

I disagree.  The reason for that is that YG is really from the hood, and people from that background tend to soak up whatever they were around.  If he were just some random '90s baby, then you'd be right, but he grew up in Compton and got put on.  When you listen to his rhymes, you hear more of the influence from his hood and the older Gs (who probably listened to Pac anyway or at least Death Row stuff), and not hearing him really sound like any of those people.  Not a single song of his from My Krazy Life sounds anything like Wayne, Kanye, etc. would make, in terms of the rapping style or the subject matter.

Again, I'm not necessarily saying YG was influenced by Pac more than other rappers were... I just said he put him in his top five, and the point of this thread is just discussing big Pac fans in mainstream music, and not so much who puts Pac in their rhymes.

Actually, the Bloods made it a hot line decades ago, and Redrum said it in Piru Love over twenty years ago.  So no.

The op requalified his statement, by "biggest 2pac fan", he means the artist whose 2pac influence is the most blatant in his rap and who you could see that he can relate to his music. YG has explained that while he grew up listening to the likes of Pac and DPG, he was more into Lil Wayne than these older artists. and you can feel it in his interviews and the way he raps where he's talking of turning up and other experiences. I don't see the growing up in Compton and getting putting on as a justification for being more influenced by Pac than by Wayne, I mean Kendrick is from the CPT as well, and the Wayne influence is palpable as well. Wayne seems to get spins in the hood too, at least from what I've seen. On My Krazy Life, off top "My Nigga" (whose remix features wayne), "Who Do You Love" (typical party shit), Me & My Bitch, etc.

and your ogs can listen to some artists and you can listen to different artists, it happens all the time. it's pretty clear to me Lil Wayne has influenced a whole generation of people, from the hood or not and it's pretty clearly YG was also influenced by the artists we love on this forum. that's why he put Wayne on the album and not DPG while an older cat like Freddie Gibbs put Spice 1 and Daz on his album ESGN.

I think you're confusing influence of one rapper with how the generation is as a whole. But YG does not sound anything like Lil Wayne, other than sounding like he just woke up when speaking during interviews.
