I2G chilled with KXNG CROOKED AKA Crooked I for an exclusive interview. We discuss his new album, Sex Money & Hip Hop, which drops today, his thoughts on hip hop, and some throwback interviews from his career. Check it out.

I2G is here with KXNG CROOKED AKA Crooked I, how’s it going?

Going great… I’m above ground and doing what I love for a living.

First question right off the bat, why the name change?

Evolution. New chapter in my life and career. Strictly king shit going on! The world is ours for the taking. We should all be Kings…

Your new album Sex, Money & Hip Hop drops on the 16th through SMH Records. Tell me a little bit about the album and how it came together for you.

It just dropped. Physical copies only. No middle man. I wanted to give the listeners the experience I had when I was coming up listening to hip-hop buying CD’s. Reading the credits while listening intro to outro. That’s why it’s only available at www.smhmerch.com

Do you have any more upcoming videos?

Next song I shoot a visual to will be I Can’t Breathe which was written inspired by the police killing of Eric Garner.

How is the new Slaughterhouse album coming together?

It’s crazy. Timing is everything and I feel like the time is sooner than later to release this album. We’ll all be in Detroit with Em to wrap up soon.

What is up next for C.O.B. in 2015? Horseshoe Gang had a heck of a year with all of their mixtape releases.

New album on SMH Records called “Knockin On Raps Door”. Those guys are raising the bar. Skill level on a million.

Indeed. What are your thoughts on the state of music in 2014 and do you see an resurgence in lyricists and substance as opposed to the materialistic raps that dominated the airwaves?

I like what Cole is doing. Kendrick of course and a few others but it’s still too much wack shit out here in my humble opinion (laughing). But hey it resonates with someone or it wouldn’t exist so what can we do about it. Outside of making dope shit to combat it.

***Got a couple throwback questions for you

What dictates your flow and cadence on tracks? Your tone and flow have changed so much since 19th Street to now. Is it more of a conscious thing or you just let the beat put you in a zone?

I was a baby on the 19th Street Compilation. Finding my flow back then. I still catch that old school Crook flow every now and then. These days I let the music talk to me. I’m also interested in making sure there’s always some message in the lyrics no matter the topic of the song.

Is there a reason why there are so many versions of R.I.P. Buntry?

I didn’t know there was more than one. He was well loved. RIP!

Was there any truth to the rumor when you were on Death Row that there was going to be a joint release for your album through Murder Inc as well?

We definitely discussed that. Would’ve been dope too. Irv Gotti is a good dude. Ja always showed me love. I wish them well.

Did you do any other tracks with Ashanti other than the Baby remix?

Nah I don’t think so. That joint was so dope that I think we should absolutely do more music.

Was the remix for Bang On Em and Dollaz In My Handz meant for your Untouchable album?

Man you’re really going back! I believe they were for the Untouchable album.

If you could compile a Top 5 Dead Or Alive MCs who would be on your list?

Tupac, Em, Jay, Nas, Myself

Do you have any upcoming shows or tour dates?

I’m planning on hitting the road in April. I’ll keep you posted. Nationwide tour.

Appreciate your time, any last words or shout outs?
