On another spin Doggfather really was a solid follow up with some great tracks on there.

Tired of people saying that.. where's MDogg when I need him... anyone over 30 who was a hip-hop fan and bought Doggystyle when it came out and spent the next two years anticipating Snoops album knows exactly what kind of a catastrophic flop and failure the Doggfather album was.  I swear to this day anytime I start bumping this album the weather starts to turn to rain...

LBCCREW Haven't You Heard >>> The Doggfather

I bought it the day it came out, and yes, I was very disappointed with it.

True, I don't think there was any way this could have lived up to the high expectations, but yeah, I thought it sucked when I first bought it.  It's better now looking back, but it does remind me of rainy darker days when I listen to it.

Word up...  8) The older O.G.'s know what's up about the dark cloud that hangs over that album to this day!

As for the laid back flow that you mentioned he started on this album and kept for 10 years.  I can't really complain about that because it seemed he was kickin that laid back shit on Above The Rim and Murder Was The Case and even Dogg Food and it was dope as fucc...  And I don't think he has ever left that laid back flow to this day... really the dude never came hard his whole career it just sounded like that because Dre's beats were so fuckin hardcore and gangsta on the Chronic and Doggystyle, but Snoop has always believed in the laid back flow

Listen to "What's My Name" and then listen to the track "The Doggfather", definite difference of delivery and flow in my opinion.

Agreed, bought this album the night it dropped, I believe Snoop and Makaveli where released on the same tuesday, could be wrong... Very disappointing, the single sucked, received little to no play on radio, compared to each single off of Doggystyle. The album was a huge disappointment at the time.   I attribute that to No Dre production, coaching Snoop and others on how to deliver the vocals etc, its night and day!

I also think he came up a lot better later on with "No Limit Top Dogg" & "Tha Last Meal" though

"Tha Doggfather" was and is the biggest sophomore disappointment in rap music.
