Awesome how much love Balance and Options still gets.  I think it's one of his best as well, yet every time Quik mentions that album, he talks like it's his worst one and he just threw together a bunch of junk to satisfy Arista so he could fulfill his contract and get off the label.

1. Safe + Sound
2. Balance & Options
3. Rhythm-al-ism
4. Quik Is The Name

^ Those are classics.

5. Trauma (different from quik's usual style, but amazing album)
6. The Midnight Life (unaspected comeback)
7. Way 2 Fonky
8. The Book of David (I listen to "Nobody" almost everyday, but overall not that great)
9. Under The Influence (it needed "Swallow Me", some great songs but this is my least favorite)

3. The Book of David
4. BlaQKout
5. The Midnight Life
6. Quik is the Name
7. Way 2 Fonky

The last two are good albums but do sound a bit dated now, and I don't listen to them as often as the others. They could do with being digitally remastered and released again. Quik's other three solo albums I haven't checked out yet.

I think the mastering is shit on UDI.

Yes! There's a couple joints on there towards the end where the vocals are way too low in comparison to the beat. Threw me off like a mufucka when I slapped it in the deck a couple days ago.

I've always thought the same & never been able to get into this album as much because of the mastering. Wasn't it said it was done on purpose to get that "analog" sound?

Bumpin one on one right now, the vocals are low as shit on that 1, woulda been an impeccable joint if not for that .. That's the diff between Dre n Quik, Dre would never let that happen. Bass drownin out the vocals. Sex crimee too, but not as bad .. Most the joints are on point tho.

This was easily quiks darkest album based on overall mood of the album and the time period in his life...the difference between "well" and "oh well" signifies that so who knows what kind of vision he had for this project... Dre with the production feature is another example especially when 2 years earlier he said "I never put my name on a track that wasn't mine" it's like "oh well" was the feel of the album

yeah there was somethin about quik mixing this whole record in some spectial way. it was nice change from his typical smooth laid back production style, he went and play with more dynamic ''bigger'' sound on this one and it came out great, at least for me. i dont see it as his most ''dark'' record matter of fact i think that him wanting to experiment with new things just shows it was the time when he got his passion for music back after  mausberg death, label fuckin up ''non-ficion'' release and problems with arista (2000-2001). when he hooked back with dre it put him in more positive space away from all the bullshit. oh and uti was recorded in ny like he really wanted to get away from all negative shit that was going on at this time and clear his head

1. Safe + Sound - the Death Row sound is my favorite sound in hip hop history, and this is his most Death Row-sounding album, so put two and two together...

2. Quik is the Name - Really enjoyable, can be listened to straight through with no skipping, sounds a little dated these days, but has nostalgia going for it, is a little short, too

3. Rythmalism - A very colorful album, probably Quick's most trademark album as far as being able to use it to pinpoint what Quik's core sound is, the subject matter gets a little monotonous after awhile tbh

Honestly, the rest are a blur and I haven't listened to all his albums tbh.  I wouldn't say I'm a hardcore fan by any means, especially once you get deep into his career.  I'm from New Jersey, and his sound never truly translated over to the East.
"Detox" is a myth -- Bigfoot, Loch Ness Monster, Area 51, Iraq having WMD, Detox...you get it now?  It was invented by the Aftermath marketing department to maintain the fans' attention.  Notice how everytime a new Aftermath album is ready to come out, they always mention Detox is next up?  Because they are using the invention of "Detox" as a way to market other albums.  The sooner you realize that Detox is NOT REAL, the sooner you'll feel liberated.  Oh yeah, f.u. Aftermath for fooling us fans.

Interesting about it bein recorded in New York .. Def has a less smooth feel to it than most his other work
