Proof that Death row is now Dead Row!!
« on: May 01, 2003, 12:54:55 AM »
Those sales are pathetic. Promotion was good enough, they had adverts in all the major Magazines (Source etc...), they had promotion on Tharow.com. That just tells you that nobody gives a damn about Death row anymore. It's time for some new acts on the West coast to come through, acts that don't live in the past. Doggystyle/Dogghouse, Aftermath even smaller labels like Tray Dee's SPOP. DPG Records release good classic ish, but daz isnt really moving the westcoast.

Dre, Snoop & Daz were the reason Suge was succesful, doesnt this prove it?

Another reason for nobody checking for Death row anymore is because of the lacklustre albums they put out over the last 4 years. Chronic 2K was ok because of the DPG songs but Tha Realest & Top Dogg YGD were just bullshit. Snoop and 2pac left so Death row get themselves 2 copies of them! no that is funny. Too Gangsta 4 Radio was the most pathetic CD in history, again Realest was pathetic and a complete fool with his lyrics and Gangsta image that truely isnt him (Just his 2pac side showing) and ATL sounded played and desperate to get back in the game. DPG 2002 was good but the production was nothing great same with Dead Man Walkin and Until The End Of Time. In other words. Death row has died of a slow death and nothing can bring them back. (Unless Dre or Snoop came back  ;)

'the movie flopped before the soundtrack even came out'

dunno how official that is...

i always thought the movie was a straight to video thing anyways... i stayed away from getting into arguments with row fans who thought it was some big blockbuster.... where the hell they show documentaries in theatres? maybe in his home town.

maybe they backed the wrong horse

Oh, see. I dont hate Death Row. I still got love for them, like i got love for the others. I just hate this beef. But to say that Death Row is back or that Death Row is dead.. why? I mean the label used to be tha shit, we all know that. But they need more than just a couple of Compilations/Soundtracks to back on business like they used to do. They need to release 2-3 classic albums, then they'll start to sell like hell again. Right now it's stupid for them to think that they can really came back with a Soundtrack with Gail Gotti, Spider, Gangsta Ridd, Eastwood, etc on it. I dont hate them, dont get me wrong. They OK (Eastwood is really tight, imo). But c'mon! You wanna sell? Make peace with Snoop & the DPGC and release good music. Or sign big names like Canibus, Ras Kass, some Bay Area cats, ATL, etc.
You want beef? Beef. Death Row style. But c'mon.

I wanna see 2-3 albums first. Then i'll judge them. If they dont care about sales it's cool. But release CLASSIC albums! Not 1. But 2-3 in a row! People loved old Death Row NOT because they were gangsta's. But because they had like 5-6 classic albums in a row! THAT'S GANGSTA! Do it. And hurry the fuck up!

Mack 10 should have been left on it. Gail Gotti song is nothing good.

well you can say its dead....i could say daz`s label or no limit records is dead.....but who cares what we say ;D
I don`t think Suge thinks about closin his label with heavy hitters like Crooked I or Kurupt
signed to him + some nice stuff from left eye and tupac coming at the end of the year.
THere are so many things suge could try to be successful again and there is so much money behind him ... ;)

Hey JoshG, don't take this too personally but what the fuck do you have against Death Row? All you do is diss them, LoL.

"It's time for some new acts on the West coast to come through"

I agree totally but last time I checked Doggystyle Records doesn't consist of any "New Acts" except for E-White & we know that we aren't getting a album from him in a while. Tha Row has some talent but they are on the wrong label. Their shit won't get released.

What about the Underground West Coast acts? What about the underground artists who have been making "Hits" for years but haven't gotten any recognition for it? Alot of the underground shit that has been coming out has been alot better than what Aftermath or Doggystyle has been putting out. What about the chicano rappers like Mr. Lil One, Baby Beesh & Jay Tee, etc. Shit, they make tight music. Those are the acts that should be getting a chance to shine now. The guys who have been putting some real work in. I would rather listen to some underground shit than to listen to the garbage that Doggystyle or Aftermath has been putting out lately. This is just my Opinion!

I can see what you are saying but I can't see Mr. Lil One, Baby Beesh & Jay Tee, etc holding much weight when it comes to movin the West coast as a whole.

I know the artists on Snoop's label and Dre's are older but the kind of stuff they are doing is what the west coast needs. Death row has been around for more than 10 years, I think it's time for them to give it up and let the new labels come through, Dogghouse, Aftermath,

In New York you have a collection of new and old labels. The west coast does not have this. It has been Death row's name mentioned when talking about West coast mainstream rap. Well im sorry but Death row does not stand in line to Rocafella, Murder Inc, Loud, even Nas's Ill Will. The west coast need some new acts/labels.

I agree with you about the underground West Coast acts. They won't appeal to the mainstream, push major units, & put the west back on the map. It's too bad because the West does have alot of young, underground talented artists that haven't had a chance to shine & they probably won't have that chance unfortunetly.

no way that DR is dead. they have just released a real good soundtrack...that should be the beginning of the īso calledī new DR era. just because a soundtrack isnt selling like yall want it to doesnt mean that DR is dead.

Trust me. Nobody on the streets is checking for Death row anymore. This soundtrack proves it.

who cares...just because DR isnt as "big" as back in the days doesnt mean that they are dead. its a westcoast label with really talented westcoast artists...we should support them instead of talking them dead.
