Gangsta-Funk and gangsta rap are one in the same.
Early west-coast records used basic samples, drums, and snares and when ATL decided to enhance that sound with melodic keyboards, more live instrumentation to records from a funk background, and still using gangster lyrics to round everything out then which became G-Funk created by Above The Law in 1990-91. Then others like Warren G, Dre, etc took that blueprint and created their own imitated versions.

uhhh, I buy all snoop and pac records, and it would never even cross my mind to d/l ja rule's album, let alone buy it.  And I think most peeps on this forum buy snoop and pac records, but they hate ja rule.  Sorry buddy give it up, ja rule sucks donkey balls, and just cause he works wit the row doesn't make him any better.

who killed gansta rap? i think it was both east and west coast...you got the east that introduced us into that bling bling shit like was stated, plus that whole player hater shit...that puffy did. when 2pac and people were dissing bad boy, they just came out with that shit called the whole westcoast player haters and it's pretty much stuck....and westcoast killed it by making it the WHOLE thing the west was about, and making it go past the music, that's why you have rappers talking about "when i see so and so i'm going to fuck them up" when you think of westcoast, there's not many people that come to mind that aren't gangsta rappers. people like a little variety.
