This Missionary record is probably going to be quite successful. It has mass appeal and touches a number of different genres. It might just be the record that takes Snoop to the red carpet. I'm happy for them both. It's certainly not what I wanted or expected from them but there is no question that the record will be immaculately produced and sonically impeccable. As Effen said, the records are big, not niche. And today, Gangsta Rap has become niche. There just isn't the kind of audience for it that there once was. However, pioneers do exactly that - they pioneer. They dictate what's what and tell a story to people about who they are and where they come from with sound that is unique to that story; it's part of what being original is all about. Funk came from all parts of the country but the West made it their signature sound when rap emerged, with Dre being one of the primary architects. That said, I really wanted a Funk record. I wanted to see how Dre could reintroduce Funk and what sorts of samples he would use. There are SO many countless Funk records that are absolutely incredible. The genre is an endless goldmine. The title of this record suggests a continuity between it and Doggystyle, which I think is misleading to original fans - we have a right to feel that way because of how familiar we are with their work and the indigenous sound that defines the West. In my opinion, the record shouldn't have been named Missionary. That title (along with Joe Cool's art) should've been saved for a record that embodied the Funk sound they put on the map. If anyone could bring it back, it's those two. Maybe we might get one before they hang it up. I won't hold my breath but it would've been nice.
What is the last Dr.Dre Funk influenced record/song?
Just finished the Drink Champs interview. As others have said; definitely sounds like Thank You will be in the album. They said 16 tracks, plus why would they play it if they weren’t gonna include it. Dre himself said it was his favourite. Also, the Mary Jane track is gonna blow no doubt (but I wish it had a little more Snoop and a little less Jelly Roll)
Sadly, that track would have been better if it were just Dre and Jelly Roll. I don't like Jelly Roll, but he killed that beat.

The tracklist on all the music retail sites don't include it, so i dont think it will be on there, plus as snoop said in the interview, Dre will have to see how it fits on the overall sequence of the album.
It should be included.
Snoop sounds like old snoop dogg in "thank you"... his tone, his flow, cadance... this is really snoop's himself. We heard somebody else in gorgeous, outta da blue and another part of me... in thank you i hear snoop doggy dogg. When it comes to beat, that guitar and its rhytm reminds me in da club and westside story, the sound effect in the beginning of each verses is what dre always does in early 2000s, when snoop started like "once upon a time...".. that melody is from shiznit beat, lots of lyrics have references to previous songs like "the watcher", "serial.killers" and a few more...I wish there would be a 3rd dr. Dre verse and that could be the come back track for these legends.
