What is your top 3 Snoops album?
lolit doesn’t need to sound like his old music to be as good as his old music this is not as good as his old music…and is no where close tbh. is it bad music? no… but to answer your question, no, i don’t think current dre could produce something as good as doggystyle. he doesn’t have the hunger and youthful energy to make something as organically dope. he’s overthinking the production, which is why it sounds far more contrived. does the aneurism factor into this? maybe, maybe not.. but the fact remains, dre is out of his prime, and there’s no shame in that. he’s still the goat, by far.
Then it just boils down to personal preference again. I've seen just as many like the album and not like it. And the majority who don't like it are the old schoolers who expected it to sound like 93 Doggystyle. G-Funk was new in 93, other than Big Hutch and ATL, not many were doing it. Dre took a chance on a new sound and it caught on and did well for a number of years. He's trying to create a new sound now and hopes it catches on and usher in a new era. Doesn't look like it's going to catch on. But you can't blame Dre for doing the exact same thing he did in 93 as far as trying to introduce a new sound. Like i said, he could very easily make an album that sounds like 93 Gfunk....hell he probably has a ton of unreleased instrumentals he made back in 93-96 that he could have had Snoop rap over. This was a conscious decision and Dre took a chance. At his and Snoop's age and levels of success, they can afford to take those chances. It isn't that Dre "fell off", he wants to try new things.Same reason Andre 3000 isn't rapping anymore. He grew tired of it, after 30+years of rapping, he wants to try something else in life, kudos for that. Same with Dre. He wants to experiment, try new things, new sounds, etc. He does care about sales other than as far as Interscope and Iovine goes, but i really don't think Dre cares at this stage if a bunch of dudes stuck in 96 like the album or not (and i'm one of those dudes stuck in 96). He didn't make the album for us.

again, i’m not talking about type of sound.. i’m talking about level of production. like many pointed out, a lot of the stuff he’s doing now sounds like just blaze.. and i’ll take it a step further n say just blaze did it better. so to sit here n say that just blaze music > dr dre music is a testament of the LEVEL in production, not the type of sound. i don’t care if it’s g-funk, rock, jazz or whatever… this music is GOOD not GREAT, which is a fall off for Dre no matter how u slice itand again, i’m the biggest dre apologist here.. i’ve spent years going to battle against weirdos who claimed he had ghost producers, or cats who claim he steals credit etc….there is no one ever who has been close to peak dre in hip-hop.but this album, g-funk or not, isn’t up to the dre standard QUALITYwise. not stylewise.
Imo the production QUALITY is same as it always been, its the STYLE of production it seems people are not feeling. The clarity, the attention to detail, the laws, the vocal production, all that is still there, it's that it's not Doggystyle (which is dumb that people would expect another Doggystyle after 31 years) that threw people off. I appreciate the album myself for what it is.
