When you think about it TDE is what Death Row could have been. They are doing it right!
death row was a level way above. TDE had a good run. But nothing as impactful as Death Row. TDE missed steps. Compilations after GKMC with the artists would have been dope, too many waits between albums, the non-release of Black Hippy... But TDE gave us Jay Rock, K.Dot, Ab & Q. a revival on the West Coast. But we're talking about Death Row, Snoop Doggy Dogg, Dr. Dre, 2Pac, Tha Dogg Pound, Jewell, Michel'le, Nate Dogg,.... California Love, Who I Am, Nuthin’ But A G Thang, Let Me Ride, Dre Day, Natural Born Killa, Aint No Fun, Lets Play House, Hail Mary,... iconic songs.

And Kendrick is no longer TDE he is PGLang

Death Row had a 4 year run,

TDE's been rocking since 2008. And they still have SZA and now Doechii who is making alot of noise. Kendrick is still affiliated.

yes on longevity... but it's always the same argument. the 4 years of Death Row are untouchable. everything we've had in 4 years. However, I am a big fan of TDE. TDE is an evolution of Death Row, they haven't reproduced the same mistakes and that's good

Why is this being promoted as a Drake diss, it's not.

We can’t force people to be interest in certain things.

This is a proper 90’s West Coast Forum.

Not surprised that Kendrick don’t get much hits here, after GKMC, most of his music not really West Coast style, might contribute to the lack of discussion on here.

It’s just what it is.

Kendrick is discussed almost everywhere, not like there is any lack of engagement online about K. Dot.

I suspect his next album going to interest this board again, with Dr Dre & Mustard pictured in the studio together.
What is westcoast style in 2024? The internet killed regional rap years ago, where you been? Everyone is rapping over the same type of production, the only way you can kind of tell what side of the map they're on is the accent.

there’s still a west coast sound …. of course, commercially everything has been intertwined…

but u put on a mozzy album .. a dom kennedy album .. larry june etc

you can still hear the west coast sound through n through

unfortunately, kendrick was one of the firsts from the coast to embrace universal sound and blur the lines .. so yea, it’s less prominent for sure

The West Coast sound to me is the traditional G-Funk and the sound that came out of the Bay that Detroit in particular has adopted. One of the reasons LA rap has fallen off is because it hasn't been able to create a distinctive sound that has captivated the rap game. The same for Atlanta. They haven't come with anything since Trap. I agree with the internet comment as well. I wish Drill rap would have stayed in Chicago instead of every region having a Drill scene.
2 Corinthians 6:8
By honour and dishonour, by evil report and good report: as deceivers, and yet true;

6:9
As unknown, and yet well known; as dying, and, behold, we live; as chastened, and not killed;

6:10
As sorrowful, yet alway rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing all things.

In no way is TDE doing it to the level that Death Row did.  Good for TDE for having a couple of good selling artists, but they are nowhere near the level of notoriety that death row was during its heyday.

i think it’s hard for you to get what’s being said when u don’t speak great english and are coming from an entire different culture brother

of course others have made music that ventured into other regional sounds well before kendrick

but kendrick was the first big west coast artist to debut witout establishing a regional sound prior to venturing out

with all due respect, there’s a huge difference

It’s neither here nor there cause I’m always around here, but at the onset and height of the beef it was also crickets here. There are plenty of places to engage and discuss on west coast topics, just hope that this will always be the first stop for me to do that. Kendrick developments since Spring imply otherwise

I find that incredibly fucking lame considering this site is the place that introduced me to Kendrick and got me into his music before he ever got signed to Aftermath. I remember downloading one of his early mixtapes off of here.

The comparison should be between Death Row and Aftermath. IMO Aftermath had the better run of it.  Sure Deathrow had a good run, but Aftermath has been legendary with Dre, Kendrick, 50 Cent, Eminem, Game, and Silk Sonic.
