missionary is the biggest letdown in a line of otherwise great albums from a 2024 west coast resurgence

outside of snoop..

dogg pound
eastsidaz
rbx
ice cube
dom kennedy
kendrick lamar
schoolboy q
ab soul
dj quik
problem
mozzy
daz
vince staples

..all released albums this year .. most of it was true to the core audience …. missionary was the only one that tried to cater to a different crowd and that’s part of why it’s not getting universal acclaim.

hoping for this resurgence to continue in 2025, starting with the release of xzibit’s album, followed by my solo debut.

Back in early 2000's everyone was bitching about those releases because it didn't sound like the old 1995 Death Row sound and said they sucked. Now they are appreciated.

And in 20 years when even shittier music is out you'll say you didn't realize how great 2024 was with new Snoop, Kendrick, Ice Cube, Daz, etc.....so enjoy it in the now.

No offense, but RBX, mozzy, ab soul, etc. Aren't getting universal acclaim.  No one outside of these boards even knows about the RBX release.  No record stores carry it.  Meanwhile Missionary is in every Target and Walmart across the county.  So, i can agree with you as far as quality of music goes, but to say Missionary isn't getting universal acclaim like the others is so not true.

that’s a lie.. the RBX album is in record stores across california, and a few other states

it’s in record stores in australia, germany, and japan as well

what did u think, it was some fun little dubcc project for 50 people?

 :tupac:

obviously, i’m not saying it’s on the level of missionary in terms of success …. but west coast hip-hop heads care when west coast legends drop

and we’re speaking more so on the reviews of the albums… acclaim means praise. missionary is not getting the acclaim it should be getting in accordance with its reach.

The only albums that are getting universal acclaim here are Kendrick's and Q's. Missionary is getting mixed reaction, which still makes it more acclaimed than the rest cause nobody cares about any of those, if we're being honest.

yes I am the first to say that this year was excellent for the westcoast. but yesterday I listened to a lot of classics from the 2000s again because the last really good Snoop album from start to finish is Blue Carpet and Ego Trippin (almost excellent from start to finish) and 7 Dayz of Funk (but it's more of an EP for me)
