90's Era

Objectively Nirvana is the best.  That "Lithium" performance at the MTV Music Awards is fuccing bananaz, legendary.  The influence that those guys had was so big like my whole 7th grade year of school—the whole culture of the school was basically defined by Nirvana.   This shit is so bad-ass this performance had suburban 7th grade kids ready to risk it all overdosing on drugs and trying to go out like Cobain

...my favorite band though is the Goo Goo Dolls.  These guys actually hustled and toured and lived out of vans since the 80's and only finally broke through around 93-94 with "Name".  It's a crazy story that everyone overlooked that song, and then finally some DJ added it to the rotation at a major station and then the rest was history.  They were actually filming a different music video at the time for a song on the album called "Flat Top" and some guy from the label came and told them the news and they set off on a whole different musical path, shut down production of the "Flat Top" video and went off immediately to record the video for "Name".   The song was used for a Real World Reunion and that's how I became a big fan.

Then.. they went into obscurity yet again, they didn't make any money off the success of that song and album because they owed their label so much money from a bad contract and years of touring without sales.  Their lead singer endured a few years of writers block and failed to recapture the magic of "Name".  Then from the heavens, gods, and angels came the greatest song in musical history, "Iris" that made the legendary summer of 1998 which was the peak of pre-internet civiliation.

Want to talk about legendary performances, check this out in their hometown in Buffalo, New York, epic performance in the pouring rain.

Then as if that wasn't enough, can you believe that these guys went into record their next song after the success of "Iris" and guess what they came up with?  Another #1 hit, "Slide".    More great music, followed and big hits, like this epic track "Black Baloon" about 90's era drug use, heroin and some chick he knew that got strung out, "but was a good girl at the end of the day."

It was hard for me to have a favorite rock band.  Because most amount of rock artists's songs I like is 2.  The only rock band that has more than 2 songs I like of is Pantera.  5 Minutes Alone, I'm Broken, & Walk.  Def Leppard with Rocket[original] & extended mix.  And pour some sugar on me.

I got into rock with Living Colour's first album.  From there it was Aerosmith, Metallica, and Dream Theater.  British rock also took off in the early 90s with Blur, Oasis, Radiohead, etc.  My current favorite bands are Blur, Warpaint, Cannons, Dream Theater, and Metallica.

For me it would have to be the Red Hot Chili Peppers and the Rolling Stones and I guess Funkadelic and Sly & The Family Stone could also be considered rock at in some of their early work.
