COMPTON VS. MISSIONARY ... WHICH DO YOU PREFER?

Missionary

I do think people should give the Missionary album another chance if you didn't like it when it first released.

I've gone back to albums many years later that I never really gave the time of day to because I was listening to other stuff at the time and ended up loving what I'm hearing after giving it another go.

Of course context plays a part such as your mood and what you're doing when you're listening.

I'm not saying people's opinions will change but it's really not that bad an album at all when considered alongside Snoop's other albums.

You are right, compared to Snoop's other albums, it's not bad.  I think people just expected a little bit more from a Dre/Snoop collab album.  I think everyone was hoping for a little more than "It's really not that bad" for an album of that caliber.

Yes, I agree with that.  I was in that camp too, there was an expectation on my part of how the album would sound and it was different to that and as a result I was slightly underwhelmed by it.  However, I still played it a fair amount when it dropped and have revisited it a few times since.

I just think it is foolish to only listen once or twice and not sit with something for a while and let it marinate.

There is a saying ‘don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good' which could apply here, as well as to many other albums.
