COMPTON VS. MISSIONARY ... WHICH DO YOU PREFER?
h2k4:
I guess between these two, Compton has it beat; 2 songs to 0. I feel like I've been let down by so many Snoop albums that this release wasn't so much of a disappointment to me.
THe Compton album sort of caught me by surprise by how bad I thought it was. Production-wise, it's fine. What you would expect from Dre but his vocals were just atrocious. The K. Dot's influence on this album, the voice inflections. Overall, just didn't feel like a cohesive album.

Between these 2, I probably would say Compton, but that's a hard choice
1. Compton was disappointing, Missionary was not
2. Dre sounds terrible on Compton, he sorta got his normal voice back on Missionary
3. The Compton mixing is horrible. I think it's been pointed out before, but the album is somewhat hard to listen to. It was the first time Dre mixing has been shit, and while Missionary has similar problem, it's still better
4. Justus and King Mez are fucking amateurs that ruined Dre's comeback with their shitty writings. There hasn't been worse ghostwriters for Dre than these 2
5. Talk about it legit might be the worst thing Dre ever rapped on, behind only INAD
6. Snoop features on Compton were completely wasted, while Dre appearances on Missionary were fine
Buut.....
Despite not liking the album when it came out, I ended up enjoying it years later lol. The problems I had with it are still there (mixing still horrible, Dre voice is fucked up etc etc) but the album has some nice vibe to it (not the laid-back type of vibe tho) that I can't explain and it's kinda nostalgic to me at this point (takes me back to a simpler times too), the features are more interesting and it introduced me to Paak, and the album overall is more cohesive.
Missionary was alright, some tracks on it are much better than most shit on Compton, but the album lacks direction and it sounds like a bunch of random tracks thrown together, and while it was cool to hear Meth, 50 and Dre with Snoop, some features didn't make sense. Overall the album doesn't have no vibe to it.
Although Snoop and Dre sound better on it than they did on Compton.
So it's probably Compton for me.
Sccit:
the mixing on compton is way better than missionary
while compton is super bright, it wasn't sonically weak
still had thick low end, poppin instrumentation, big sound
missionary was not only overly bright, but super thin overall as well
it's night n day
goodyoung:
Both have similar problems
The difference is Missionary doesn't make your ears bleed and you can at least hear the drums having more weight than Compton

naah .. the drums bang harder on compton .. and the bass isn't super thin and underwhelming like it is on missionary
could be your system and how u got your settings.. generally speaking, the beats on missionary sound way smaller
the main issue with compton is that i felt the vocals coulda used a little more de-esser ... but i thought that was on purpose to keep the lyrics sharp ala stadium music
