Ice Cube warns fans to stay out of his business after ‘nonsense’ new song

Ice Cube’s new song Act My Age is causing a stir

Ice Cube has hit back at fans criticising his new song Act My Age after a clip of him dressed as a baby left people begging him to ‘stop’.

The track, featuring Scarface, is from his album Man Up, which dropped last month as the follow-up to 2024’s Man Down.

In the music video, the rappers are edited to look like babies wearing bonnets and onesies as they criticise the ageism in the industry.

‘Never tell me to act my age,’ he says and asks for ‘real lyricists’ who have a message and are making an impact.

It gained traction on X after one user posted a snippet with the caption: ‘This is a prime example of why as a rapper you just gotta know when it’s time to hang the mic up.’

The 56-year-old rapper wasn’t going to let the disrespect stand, especially as this was what he was discussing in the song, and publicly fired back at the criticism.

Fans criticised him, saying he needs to ‘hang up the mic'

They questioned the ‘nonsense’ music video with Scarface

‘I would never listen to you and hang up my mic,’ he retorted. ‘You’ve obviously lost your sense of humour.

‘You need to go find it and stay out my business.’

However, the original poster wasn’t the only one finding the song and its video a little cringe.

‘Did they really need to dress up as kids tho ? Lmao,’ wrote romeytheruler on X as Starreezy said: ‘I need Cube to stop.’

Lanceyvalentino added: ‘These are the same two that made Hand of the Dead Body. wtf is going on right here.’

‘This is a mess. 2 of my favourite mcs putting out this nonsense,’ wrote therealnairaman.

In the song the duo rap about ageism in the industry

‘This might just be the best and worst video of the year,’ joked etherealwavecap.

While fans may not have thought this was Ice Cube or Scarface’s best work, many were defending them over the dismissal of their music due to their age.

NickDuggal wrote: ‘World is cooked when someone tells a legend what to do LOL. Go read a book.’

‘Man, people got one life, let them live it. The way we try to control artists is so boring &entitled,’ said andrejgee. ‘”He’s ruining (my perception of) his legacy” that’s a personal problem.’

H1lls praised Ice Cube’s response and said: ‘You’re thriving and having a good time in your 50’s and people can’t stand that. They want to get on the internet and dictate when you should rap, on what beat and with who, lol. Thanks for not listening Ice Cube! 😎.’

Others praised Ice Cube for hitting back at the criticism

Afterwards, the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer posted a picture from a recent show of the crowd going wild as he performed.

’40 years in and the love is louder than ever,’ he captioned the post. ‘Salute to everybody that’s pulled up to the Truth to Power Tour. Let’s do it again 40 years from now.’

Ice Cube, real name O’Shea Jackson, burst onto the Los Angeles rap scene in the late 80s with N.W.A and their seminal record Straight Outta Compton.

He left the group after royalty disputes, having written a significant portion of the lyrics himself, and pursued solo music instead.

The remaining four – MC Ren, Dr. Dre, Eazy-E, and DJ Yella – threw shade at their former bandmate in their next albums, with a feud escalating until after Eazy-E’s death 1995.

Alongside his rap career, Ice Cube starred in numerous films including both Jump Street films, the Ride Along franchise, War of the Worlds, and an N.W.A biopic.

Ice Cube’s Response to Backlash Over His New Song Goes Viral

Ice Cube's response to backlash over his new song, "Act My Age," has gone viral on social media.

Why It Matters

The age-based criticism comes after the iconic hip-hop artist made headlines following his crew's tour bus being firebombed in Portland, Oregon.

On October 15, Ice Cube—whose real name is O'Shea Jackson Sr.—released the music video for "Act My Age," featuring Scarface, as part of his latest album Man Up, which dropped on September 12. The music video attracted significant attention both for its humorous visuals—superimposing the artists’ faces onto babies' bodies—and for its content, which challenges stereotypes about older artists in hip-hop.

On Monday, X user @FreddieHotSpot criticized the track’s relevance and suggested Ice Cube should "hang the mic up." At the time of publication, the post racked up more than 2.5 million views and 10,000 likes.

In response, Ice Cube hit back on the platform: "I would never listen to you and hang up my mic. You’ve obviously lost your sense of humor. You need to go find it and stay out of my business." To date, his reaction has 1.1 million views and 12,000 likes.

The lyrics of "Act My Age" begin: "If you’re over 35 and still rapping, keep rapping, my boy. F*** all of that, ‘Oh, I’m getting old’ s***.' No, we need y’all, we need y’all to save music. We need the real lyricists back.”

Ice Cube adds: "This is for the Black, white, brown, and beige. Never tell me to act my age. B**** told me to act my age. That's when I let his a** out the cage."

The 56-year-old is no stranger to online criticism. In September, Ice Cube responded to a separate X user who criticized his statement about a fire on a tour bus that was linked to him. Reports had alleged that the attack was incited by protesters who associated the vehicle's "ICE" letters with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement [ICE].

"Wasn’t my bus. It was a crew bus," Ice Cube said on X. "Parked in front of the hotel. Everybody was upstairs sleeping. Nobody hurt. No equipment damaged. A coward set fire to the bus. My bus was actually in Oakland getting serviced."

When @eugenedelgaudio replied, "Posting that this is 'only' the crews bus is absurd on your part," the California native shot back: "'Only' is your words not mine. I was stating the facts. Being in my business is absurd on your part. So STFU [shut the f*** up]…"

In a statement to Newsweek, Ice Cube said via his representative, Tresa Sanders: "I'm not taking this incident as a personal attack. A coward like that would burn anybody's property that was out there at the time."

What People Are Saying

Following the release of Man Up, Ice Cube said in a statement, per Billboard: "I’ve always stood on speaking truth to power and making music that reflects reality. Man Up is about accountability, resilience, and reminding people where the real problems come from. Hip hop didn’t create the struggle—it gave us the language to call it out."

What Happens Next

Ice Cube's Truth to Power Tour ended earlier this month, but he will be performing at the Tortuga Music Festival in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in April 2026.
