Has west coast hiphop died
« on: October 26, 2026, 12:39:43 PM »
90s was the peak.

But despite this the most featured artist on 2001 Hittman went nowhere

In 2000s it was just The Game receiving some help due to being from the West Coast. Despite this he had no hit after his debut except My Life.

In 2011 kendrick came through and yg was hot for a shot while.

But since then it has been dormant.
Snoop dre dropped Missionary nobody cared. Snoop dogg drops an album every year and nobody cares

He's not reaching Kendrick heights but Vince Staples has had a solid career so far with good albums.

I don't think Ya Boy had a run like that, but he was dope for sure.....went downhill once he changed his rap name. Funnily enough, I bumped some of his 2008 material a couple of weeks ago, just thought about them tracks all of a sudden

he had a couple songs that were really big on LA radio in his prime

Whenever everyone asks who is the best rapper out, pretty much everyone says Kendrick Lamar, and every time Kendrick drops something it's big. Also YG, Schoolboy Q, Anderson .Paak are still big.
Also G Perico, Ab-Soul, Ice Cube, JasonMartin, E-40, Xzibit, The Game and Kurupt still make some quality songs.
Other artists I enjoy, but I don't know if others like them:
Dezzy Hollow, Larry June, Jay Worthy/LNDN DRGS, Bishop Snow, Doggystyleeee, Coyote, Evidence, NHale, T.F
Also enjoy some Chicano rap like King Lil G, Young Drummer Boy, CNG, 2DNK, Lil Grifo.
So I don't think West Coast hip hop is dead. Maybe only more for normies who only listen to pop rap, or dance club rap. I could be wrong though cuz I'm biased for West Coast Rap.

Ironically, for a song that's intended to show and prove that the West ain't dead this is extremely subpar....
