don't think I have ever heard of this one, but dinero is one of the best actors imo.  What year did it come out, and what is the basic plot of the movie?

Was made in 1984...amazing film...directed by sergio leone who turned down directing the godfather in favour of this film...

...Starring: Robert De Niro, James Woods, Elizabeth McGovern, Joe Pesci, Burt Young, Tuesday Weld, Treat Williams

Directed by: Sergio Leone

From Sergio Leone comes an immense saga which spans four decades in the lives of Jewish gangsters in New York's Lower East Side, starring Robert De Niro, James Woods and Joe Pesci. Leone's commanding epic traces the destinies of four men from childhood on the streets through their violent rise to power and maturity during Prohibition as fully fledged hoods. De Niro is magnificent as "Noodles" Aaronson, one of the four, forced by murder and betrayal to flee New York in 1933. When he is mysteriously summoned back in 1968, he discovers that the tragic and bloody events surrounding his betrayal are not as they once seemed...

ive preordered it ...out on 23rd june for dvd.

"The reason that I feel this is the best gangster movie is because none have the combination of style and substance that this films brings. It's not just about gangsters, its a look inside the soul of Noodles. Robert de Niro gives such a wonderful understated performance that the character of Noodles sticks with you. I can still remember Noodles just by a certain look in de Niro's eyes, a sort of calm depression, a look that has the weariness of the world in it. This is a movie where the mood of repressed sadness will linger long after the film has ended. Very few films are as powerful."

Some people say this film is too long...and yes it is probably one of the longest movies ive watched but its impeccable in its storytelling, if you pay attention and stick with the unfolding plot the intricacy, detail and way in which you are brought into "noodles" life and made part of it is fantastic...
...its heartwarming in places when comeraderie and friendship is displayed, sickening in some of the way violence is portrayed (you'll see what i mean), and downright truthful in the way it shows human fallability and change.

I've had this since I started Uni in september - My brother ordered it for me - I'll try and find out where from later

It's the full version - the same one shown on BBC 2 about 6 months back

It has profiles of DeNiro, Woods and Leone.  That is the only special feature on my DVD.

What I meant about the ending is does him smiling mean the whole thing was a doped up dream?
