There's stuff about this in the forum rules, basically when you have more than 500 posts you can assign positive or negative karma to people.  So when you post and you're talkin ish or somebody doesn't like what you say, they lower your karma by a point.  Or if you're cool, they raise it.  It doesn't really matter that much, but somebody who's cool, like say white chocolate for instance, who's always humble, given feedback, ect, has good karma, and the constant shit talkers have bad karma..get it?
