Sir Mix-A-Lot - Daddy's Home
« on: July 04, 2003, 04:30:05 AM »
"Daddys Home is Mix-a-Lots first album in seven years.

Once Baby Got Back hit MTV, Sir Mix-a-Lot found himself in one
hell of a pickle. When your new song is a breakthrough hit, do
you capitalize on the attention and follow your right hook with a
solid left jab, or do you become a sad parody of yourself and
regress into a one-hit wonder novelty act whose hobbies include
not being funny anymore? Grab hold of your defibrillators, ladies
and gentlemen, because as enticing as the latter choice sounds,
Sir Mix-a-Lot is proof that the well of a career shabbily built
on womens asses isnt quite as deep as it seems. Daddys Home,
Mix-a-Lots latest release, is a collection of the sad remnants
that cling to the coattails of the rappers early 90s schtick.
Produced in Mix-a-Lots home studio, Daddys Home contains the same
old predictable Sir Mix-a-Lot subject matter -- and in the end it
just sounds forced, unnatural and a bit desperate, as the Seattle
native squeezes every single penny of profit out of making music
based on his love of ass.

Tastes and tolerances have changed a wee bit in the past 10
years, and lyrics like those in Big Johnson (Bring black / bring
            white / bring length / tonight / if not / bye-bye / we like / we
like a great big Johnson) went out of style with Andrew Dice
Clay's nursery rhymes. The opener/title track, with a chorus of
My daddys home / and Im collecting on the rent is a challenge to
other rap artists with borrowed gimmicks (gimmicks that have
presumably been taken from Mix-a-Lot himself) that sounds more
like a senile, bitter old man sitting on his porch rhyming about
how things just arent the same anymore. Indeed, they arent  in
fact, back in the day, it's been said that Sir Mix-a-Lot wasnt
always a pathetic shell of his former one-hit wonder self rapping
about the same worthless drivel. Time to retire -- and no, no
"Baby Got Back" encore is necessary."

LMAO at "Big Johnson". That's a classy term right there.
