Time to ‘DX’ Evolution?
« on: September 07, 2003, 02:14:06 PM »
Here is an article about an idea for what Evoultion should do when HHH goes on his break.

Double: Time to ‘DX’ Evolution?

TSN.ca Staff

9/6/2003

With Triple H poised to lose the World Championship to Goldberg and reportedly take a few months off to heal himself up from his injuries (and to also get married to Stephanie McMahon), the question must be raised: What’s going to happen to Evolution?

They could maintain status quo, and go on with Ric Flair acting as their stand-in leader. They could add a member or two, or they could go on a huge losing streak without their leader. The possibilities are endless, but I think WWE should actually borrow an idea from their recent past. Before I tell you what it is, let me ask a simple question:

What made Triple H a star?

Was it Joining DX with Shawn Michaels?

Maybe.

Was it fighting Mankind in early 2000 in both a street fight and a Cell?

A popular choice, but not the one I’m thinking of.

For me, Hunter really broke out on his own Monday, March 30, 1998. It was the day after Shawn Michaels lost the WWE title to Stone Cold Steve Austin at WrestleMania 14. If you recall, Mike Tyson was brought in as the enforcer and in the weeks heading into the event it looked like he was with DX - only to turn on the group during the main event and decking Shawn Michaels to the apron.

An irate Hunter Hearst Helmsley got into the ring on RAW the next night and announced to the world that Shawn had ‘dropped the ball’ and never should have trusted Tyson. He then announced that he was taking over the group. Triple H then announced a new member and Shawn ‘X-Pac’ Waltman made his way to the ring to cut a really cool anti-WCW promo. That same night, DX also added two new members and the show went off the air with a bloody Mick Foley and Chain Saw Charlie. The New Age Outlaws, Hunter and Waltman then climbed a corner of the cage and crotch-chopped the crowd.

Now what does all this have to do with Evolution? It’s simple. On Monday, Sept. 22, an irate Randy Orton should accompany Ric Flair to the ring. Orton can grab the microphone and tell Hunter that he ‘dropped the ball, and judging from Unforgiven, conclude that Evolution has passed HIM by.’ Orton can then proclaim himself the new leader of the group and re-introduce Dave Batista to the group.

In the weeks that follow, the new look Evolution could add a couple of members (preferably workers who can talk on the microphone to act as the groups mouth piece). Then have the three or four of them turn on Flair, and leave him a bloody mess in the ring.

A month later, a face-turned Triple H could return with Flair by his side to teach the young ingrates a few things. Flair could get red-faced, take off his suit jacket, bounce off the ropes and tell Evolution that “this old dog didn’t teach you all the tricks he knows…Whooo” - or something like that. You get my point.

This would set up a Young vs. Old storyline that would let Hunter and Flair help put over Orton and Batista where it counts the most, in the ring. It would also keep Hunter out of the WWE Championship picture for a few months enabling him to win it back at WrestleMania XX, which I’m willing to bet dollars to doughnuts will happen.

Before I get the ‘far fetched’ or ‘how did you get this job’ Your Call, I ask that you consider a few additional points.

1 - The returning star factor: Every time a major WWE Superstar returns from any sort of time away, he gets a face pop upon his return. Kurt Angle was gone for just over two months and in that time went from the top heel in his brand to the top face.

No matter how up fed up fans may be with a particular wrestler or storyline, it’s been proven in the WWE anyway that absence makes the heart grow fonder.

People will be glad when Hunter comes back from his hiatus. Now, while I know it’s just a rumour that he’ll be gone for a few months, he really should take the time. His character is stale, but more importantly, he’s starting to break down. Give him time to lose some of his muscle mass and heal up, so he can be more like the butt kicker we saw against Foley from 2000 and less like the pose down artist we saw against Steiner in February.

2 - The Flair factor: People love the Nature Boy, even when they should love to hate him. He’s a freaking legend in the true sense of the word in wrestling. He’s lost a step and isn’t in the greatest shape, but the people are still into him, and I think want to see him finish up as a face.

This storyline would enable Flair to finish as a fan favourite, and leave us with a warm and fuzzy wrestling retirement for once.

At the end of the day, the WWE is going to need something to do with Evolution in the absence of ‘The Game’. My proposal would elevate the young guys so we can see once and for all whether or not they can actually ‘carry the ball’.

It would give Hunter a purpose other than the World Championship for a couple of months, which should give other wrestlers a chance to contend. It would also let us cheer for Flair like we really want to deep down.

For TSN.ca, I’m Daan ‘Double A’ De Kerpel from the ‘Worst Seat in the House’.

HHH will leave, Flair Orton & Batista will keep the Evolution thing going, maybe adding another member.

They should Throw HHH in with Shawn Michaels & Kevin Nash, & reform part of 'DX', and have DX vs Evolution, since that's whats been happening over the past few weeks

WWE need to keep HHH off tv for a while, and make sure they dont give him the title anytime soon

good idea.

Randy Orton could be the cocky heel/leader:he has OK mic skills(he can go after the IC/world titles depending on what's needed)
Batista is the enforcer:no mic skills needed
(destroys ppl and feuds with upper midcarders)
Mark Jindrak and Garrison Cade could be the tag team:no mic skills needed (though i think that there is a better choice than these 2,they r all i can think about)
and for a mouthpiece maybe they should get a guy like Joel Gertner or Don Callis

or if we wanna go to fantasy choices:the Million dollar man Ted Dibiase, not to wrestle just to be a mouthpiece,he could be great in that role

Money MONEY MONEY!!!!!!!it's a rich man's world

For some strange reason, I want Sean O'Heir to go to Raw and team with Mark Jindrak. I don't know why, I guess 'cause I loved that team in WCW. But I think Evolution would do great with Randy Orton as the leader, and I think for a while, have Flair there as kind of the older villian type role. No need to rush things, the mos important thing is that the younger careers devolpe, and having the greatest heel in the game as there leader can't hurt anyone at all. Evolution I think can be a great faction with Batista back, and add a tag team, and it's all good, all young talent that can only get better with Flair, I can see no wrong. Though I don't want Triple H face. I think his better heel, just leave the title off of him for a while. Wait until after WrestleMania XX to give him the title.

HHH will be off TV for a while to rest his injuries & to get married to Stephanie.

The Million Dollar Man should come back either to be the voice of Evoultion after they take out Flair or as the voice of RVD.

Brock Lesnar is most likely going to Raw soon because they want Brock vs Goldberg, and a Brock vs Kane match.

The big money maker matvh for the WWE is Brock vs Goldberg, where Brock beats Da Man

you really think Goldberg will lose to Brock without Goldberg getting a rematch and beating Brock?

They're not going to have Goldberg beat one of the 2 (Brock & Angle) best things going in the WWE. Brock is the biggest name in the company right now he wouldn't loose to a guy who might not be in the company come Wrestle Mania.

Why would Brock loose to Goldberg anyway? Brock is bigger, stronger, faster, younger, a better wrestler, and he can work the mic better then Goldberg and Brock doesn't act like a pussy if they company wants to turn him heel. (WCW turned Goldberg heel, and Da Man wouldn't stop crying in the back because he didn't want the fans to boo him even though he would be better as a heel.
