WESTCOAST RAPPERS NEED TO QUIT WHINING!!!

People like Ras Kass (my favourite rapper of all time), Ea-Ski, Cj Mac, Yukmouth, and many others need to realize they just dont have the sound that appeals to the general public.  Thats the end of the story, period.  I mean, does Ea-Ski actually think any of his songs could blow on the radio if he got them played?  I love his recent song Manuscript, but he says if it "aint Dre affiliated" it aint getting played.  Well, maybe their is a reason; Dre is incredibly talented and surrounds himself with people who are also talented, while songs like MAnuscript (and Ea Skis sound in general) is good also but not made at all for the radio.
    Ras kass recently said he is "just as nice on the mic as Nas, Jigga, and eminem", and i think lyrically and topic wise he is far better.  However, he doesnt have the4 star quality and voice to match, and i pray tat he sticks with what he has been doing.
         I remember an interview with CJ Mac saying Dre dont wanna help nobody on the west coast so fuck him.  Well, Dre cant save an entire coast by himself.  It is sad that the westcoast is now the "third coast" behind the south and the east..........but they deserve it.  

   It seems to me all these rappers are mad Dre is working with Em, 50, and Eve, but Dre has carried the west (at least commercially) for 15 years.  I think many artists on the westcoast are just hard headed, and need to create a new sound instead of beating their head against a brick wall like tbey are doing now.  I hope that the west comes out of the 5 year slump they have been in, but i wouldnt count on it.  I think the biggest thing westcoast artists need is better production, as that is what sells albums nowadays.  


I dont think commercial success is everything, as my favourite music is actually stuff like Masta Ace or Ras kass.  However, it seems like most westcoast artists think they should all be platinum, and that it is the fans or the radio stations or the labels fault.  While all these are factors, certain rappers need to rethink the game, and really start taking time on their music and putting in quality work.  Fuck making 100 songs for an album and keeping 20, how about spending that same time making 20 songs, keep 15 and have yourself a hit and possible classic because you got something you didnt just throw together in a couple weeks.

Oh ya, if artists like DJ Quik qould give beats like "Put it in the Air", "Addictive", or "Bagg Up" by Chingy to himself or westcaost artists maybe westcoast rappers would have more hits.

My problem with it is: Why are they trying to go platinum so hard?  They're just not universal, a lot of us love the westcoast stuff, but that doesn't mean EVERYBODY does.  They're just showing the ONLY reason they're in the game is for money.  If they were doing it out of love for music things would be different.

Go ask Beck or one of those weird fuckers if he's trying to make shit for the radio so he gets rich.  Hell no, he's just making music he likes, and people happen to like it, and buy it.  Even all these bullshit bands like Blink 182 have that concept down, they're not making shit they know will sell, they're just making music they like, and a lot of other people happen to like it too.  

Look @ Norah Jones.  Do you think she was looking to sell millions and millions of copies of a fucking JAZZ album?  Hell no, she was just making music she liked doing, and it blew the hell up.  It's the same everywhere, it's nobody's responsibility to help others out, they should just do their thing, and hopefully people will like their music.

Those are not even close to Quik's best. Quik always delivers heat, but he never blows up. So the beats aint the problem IMO.

whats kinda funny is that people say dre needs to step aside and let others in the west step up...........so dre don't make an album for a couple years produces artists he thinks are hot and doesn't make himself the the person that decides who makes it on the west.............so now people cry and complain dre ain't helpin them

also dre and snoop can sell cause they have big names......and if you don't have a big name you have to come with something really catchy these days to sell......and i haven't seen one westcoast artist do that....i mean do they need dre to tell them what is a good hook?

Well I really donno who to "blame" for the west coast's drought.

To be honest, I think it is a mix of things...from the record industry itself, to the major west coast artists, and to the ones who have talent but havent gone anywhere.

From how I see it, the industry realizes the west is not on top anymore, and they don't even try givin a chance to anybody, and when they do, they either fuck them over, or they either try to push somebody who isn't gonna appeal to the rest of the country. So if Rocafella or Def Jam had Ras Kass or Crooked, I think they would sell as much as the Young Gunz or Joe Budden, if they had the production and all needed.

But one thing I notice is that every coast is biased as fuck right now....some people in NY will like an artist just becaues he's from their city/state, and hate somebody who's dope just because they are from L.A...and for those who don't feel like that, they haven't even heard half of the dope rappers from L.A., so when they hear a rapper from L.A. is comin out they just assume he's wack and don't even give a listen.

Now I don't want to blame Dre because he did do his part for a looong time on the west. But at the same time, even though it's not his fault the west fell off, I think he could give a jump start to the west gettin back in the game in some way, even though I don't think he's obligated to because he's his own man.

Yeah, I'm not saying they don't want money, LOL.  Why else be a musician?  I'm just saying, they don't go LOOKING for money, they realize the best way to be successful is to make good music! It's not about making music you think will sell, it's about making music you think sounds good.
