White Man Is Something I Tried To Study, But I Got My Hands Bloody
« on: September 29, 2003, 05:46:41 PM »
I don't understand why people can hate Paris for having an album title called Sonic Jihad (Jihad means Holy War) but they can love Ice Cube for dropping lines like the one in the thread title. Can someone please explain to me?

Most hip-hop is now keyboard driven, because the majority of hip-hop workstations have loops and patches that enable somebody with marginal skills to put tracks together,...

Unfortunately, most hip-hop artists gravitated towards the path of least resistance by relying on these pre-set patches. As a result, electric guitar and real musicians became devalued, and a lot of hip-hop now sounds the same.

When you say "people", of what ethnicity are you referring to?

Jihad doesn't mean Holy War; it means struggle.

I dont agree on that totally...yes it was a struggle in the days of krs one, public enemy bdp etc etc and in the days of cube...especially in the emergence of rodney king..the la riots yall know that anyway...what im trying to say is that cube's music wasnt only for the black population...he reached out and grabbed alot of us by the bollocks (well i dont have them but same as) and these artists made some of us conscious to whats going on in the world and some read up to understand others point of view more fully...

...those that call paris racist are foolish...i dont believe he is at all.

I thought so...I believe I read it in a book as well.

I simply don't love Ice Cube for dropping lines like the one in the thread title.
Cause I don't care where I belong no more
What we share or not I will ignore
And I won't waste my time fitting in
Cause I don't think contrast is a sin
No, it's not a sin

This entire thread is because of a comment I made on the other post.  Somebody mentioned Paris, and I said I was gonna be calling my new album "Sonic Killing Muslims".  The way I see it, an album, released right now, in the political climate of the world, called "Sonic Jihad" is obviously making a reference to the problems in the middle east, involving Bin Ladin, Saadam Hussein, and the United States.  I believe this assumption is correct, because Paris has lyrics that are extremely critical of the president of the United States, so it would be very naieve of me to think that the title had nothing to do with the "Jihad" that Bin Ladin declared on the united states.

Ice Cube is a totally different animal.  Ice Cube in the early 90's spoke out against the president, the fbi, etc. and he was talking about the state of the united states DOMESTICALLY.  He wasn't attacking the country and it's leader in the middle of a war, or choosing sides with our opposition in Iraq, he was speaking out about the problems in America, which for all intents and purposes, he was pretty much correct about.

He also spoke about being a muslim, and the hypocricy he saw in Christians & such, I see the same exact hypocricy, and I believe they won't call Ice Cube a nigger when he gets to heaven.

I agree with him that black men shouldn't date white women just because they're white, and I think it's bullshit that the FBI tried to tell him what he could and couldn't say in a song.

I can relate to Ice Cube and why he would feel that way about shit, why someone would wish "Jihad" (which in MOST accounts that I've heard from muslims like Bin Ladin, involves the death of our entire country and everyone in it) on anybody I can't relate to.  Fuck Paris.
