Why are people still stuck on Ruthless & Death Row?
« on: October 06, 2003, 04:11:15 PM »
Judge labels by what they release not what they released. It's sad to see people liking these labels just cause they released classics back in the day.

Most hip-hop is now keyboard driven, because the majority of hip-hop workstations have loops and patches that enable somebody with marginal skills to put tracks together,...

Unfortunately, most hip-hop artists gravitated towards the path of least resistance by relying on these pre-set patches. As a result, electric guitar and real musicians became devalued, and a lot of hip-hop now sounds the same.

I agree with u. I hate when people still support Death Row and shit...it's even worst when I kno people who like Death Row, but hate Snoop and Dre and think they are bitches and all else. I am only grateful that Death Row made it possible for classic music to be released...but if the Death Row roster had been on (Slap-a-hoe) records instead, it still woulda been the same classic music...the company itself wasn't the reason the music was good.

Nothin' wrong with listening to hip-hop at it's best.
besides to some it's not old school.
It's what we grew up listening to, kinda like most of you today. ;)
(when it was FRESH)

So, if I like Deathrow becuase of Crooked I & Eastwood, I'm still wrong? And, if I don't like Snoop because of his wack izzle dizzle sizzle nizzle raps and his fake Pimp persona, I'm wrong? If I don't like Dre because he doesn't create his own beats, I'm wrong? LMAO.

Nothing wrong with what you're saying. My beef is with those who like Death Row just because of what they did before. I love Crooked I & Eastwood but it's not because of their affiliation.

ok cool. I agree. Most successful rappers nowadays are getting put on because of affiliation, its wack.

People who still have hope for Tha Row are pretty damn dumb. It wasn't the label or Suge who made West Coast rap so big in the early to mid-nineties, it was the artists signed to the label. Pac, Dre, Snoop, DPG, Nate, Warren, Above the Law, etc. I laugh at dudes who still jocc Suge and the Death Row label, yet they hate Snoop and Dre's guts. They totally clueless.

Are you serious? Suge didn't do nothing? Who do you think go Dre out his contract? Suge. Dre would still be getting fucked at Ruthless if it wasn't for Suge. If it wasn't for Suge's money there would've been no Deathrow. Like I said, Dre would still be getting fucked at Ruthless, Snoop would probably be on the street still, there would be no DPG, and Pac would still be in jail. Btw, Warren G was never signed to Deathrow, and ATL was signed after the "era" was done.

Well let me clarify....IF you like Death Row because of them, and u hate Snoop because of that, then it's no problem. What I am saying is that it's people who STILL like Death Row just because of the past, but might not even care about Crooked I or Eastwood. And they will dislike Snoop and Dre for the same reasons that Suge hates em, not because they think he's wack. It's people that will say "Snoop isn't wack but he's a bitch because he is scared of Suge knight and because he's a snitch" and "Dre is a dope producer but he is gay, doesn't make his own beats, never was gangsta" etc. etc. which is all personal reasons not relating to talent. I shoulda clarified that instead of sayin it how I did.

With me, I like Eastwood and Crooked I, but I hate the company that they are on, and the fact that barely anybody knows about them.

I'm not stuck on them... Ruthless doesn't even exist in my world, and deathrow hasn't released a new album of new material in what, 4 years now?  Too gangsta for radio was the last, right?

I didn't say Suge did nothing, I said he wasn't the main factor. Look at Tha Row now. They have an abundance of talent IMO, but why aren't they makin' an impact in the game? Because Suge's fat ass ain't gettin' they albums out. He's too busy authorizing shitty ass 2pac remix albums. And where is Dre and Snoop? I think we all see who got the much better end outta that.

You could count the Dysfunktional Family OST.
