found hi-c "hi-life hustle"
« on: October 30, 2003, 11:30:32 PM »
i was checking out a local mom n pop shop tonight and found a used (promo) copy of "hi-life hustle".  my friend at the counter said there were 3 and i got the last one.  it has the booklet and is explicit, it's not stamped, but it does have a hole punch through the barcode.  the albums pretty dope, i bumped half of it on the way home.  i wasn't sure if anyone else had found a copy yet.  peace!

Damn homie! Where do you live? I'm out here in Phoenix, and I'm dying to hear this album but can't find it anywhere.

-say woop ft. suga free**
nice funky track, not feelin the chorus, but the dope ass loop of this chick singing makes up for it (can't wait for suga frees LP!!)

-don't wanna know ft. nate dogg**
another funky track with nate on the chorus, i feel it should get radio play

-the talk ft. e40 & sly boogy**
was expecting a little bit more on this track from these 3, dont' get me wrong it's a nice song, just thought they could of come more correct.  one of sly's rhymes is "i'm not a homosexual, i like pussy", he's worthy of better than that

-coochie coochie ft. diamonique**
guitar riff sample is cool, but chorus is weak

-let me know ft. dj quik*
not much to say here, very nice track we've all heard

-pop it ft. big steele**
not one of my favorites, but the beats growin on me

-hey hey**
beat on this track is cool

-fo a buck**
laid back track about skanless bitches, feelin it

-so good ft. james debarge**
another smooth laid back track about hoez

-hit me where it hurts*
sweet guitar sample, feelin the beat and like the chorus with casio sounding samples, dj quik producing

-run up*
piano loop makes this track, dope dj quik production

-x pills**
probably my least favorite track, piano loop is nice

-do it*
believe this was his second single, like the beat.  another dope track by dj quik.

production credits:
  *dj quik
**crawf dog (believe this is hi-c)

i left out the intro and skits.  this was a very quik and rough review from a couple listenings.  this seems like the type of album that grows on you.  there's also an ad on the inside for skanless and swingin.  we'll see if they actually get re-issued this time.  they show a web address: www.hilifehustlermusic.com  but the site isn't up yet.  hopefully i haven't confused anyone, the album isn't available yet, but the shop i went to  sometimes has promo copies used a few weeks before the actual release date.  i got lucky, picked up the last one they had, i'm sure it will be poppin up on mirc soon.  oh yeah i'm out here in los angeles, california.  peace!!

Damn, I thought this wasn't out til late November?

Most hip-hop is now keyboard driven, because the majority of hip-hop workstations have loops and patches that enable somebody with marginal skills to put tracks together,...

Unfortunately, most hip-hop artists gravitated towards the path of least resistance by relying on these pre-set patches. As a result, electric guitar and real musicians became devalued, and a lot of hip-hop now sounds the same.

I'll judge this one for myself.
