I was showing my own interpretation of what he thought. I never denounced his right to express his opinion. So please do me the same curtousy.

Ant, I agree with some of what you say, mainly, 4 things.
1. Siddartha is a great book, yup.
2. Worshipping sex and money is only temporary, and therefore, just like you said about wasting time, it's wasting your time to do that. It's pleasure, instead of happiness, pleasure is temporary, happiness lasts forever.
3. All religions do have things you can learn from them, yes. Im' a christian, but can learn from Islam, Buddism, Hinduism, etc.
4. I also agree with your point, that people trying to change the world are wasting their time, when they're on a small scale. What people need to do is focus on what they can change, and then like you said, if they build to the point where they can change the world, great. Right now, i'm at the point where I'm trying to improve myself, and my relationships with those immediately around me. That's all I can influence or improve right now.
On top of all this, I still believe in Christianity, because it encompasses all this. All your points are valid, and within the confines of christianity, I just think christianity adds something more to it. You've also got a good point about how the world has gotten along fine up until now, and to not go against the grain... but just remember, people have been worshipping god and believing in an afterlife since the beginning of time.
Even if you don't want to take it in the literal sense, don't people like John Lennon live on even after they die? He was killed, but he's immortal, he's still alive, living his afterlife, even if you only consider that the legacy he left behind. He was dead in 1980, but his music has greatly influenced my life, and I was only 2 when he died. You can see from just that one example, how even after death, you have an 'afterlife', even if you don't want to believe he's still physically existing somewhere (although I do believe that too :) ). Now, if John Lennon made that big of a difference, imagine how stong Jesus still lives... I make sales appointments, and see a picture of him in more than half the homes I go in, that's an afterlife, right there.
Peace~
Sikotic™:
I know their is an afterlife because my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ died for my sins so that I could spend my afterlife with him forever.
And word about you can learn from religions of all kinds.
