buying cds.....
« on: December 09, 2003, 01:00:36 PM »
what do u do?  and about how many og albums do you own?

buy and download nothing?

download and buy nothing?

both?

I do both.    but recently I started d/l a lot more than I buy because I been branching out from westcoast gangsta rap so I am checking out new artists that I have never listened to before.  I own probably between 250-300 og cd's.

I buy all of my albums. I only got 56k so I can't download everything, so its normally like 3 or 4 tracks from an album, and then if i'm feeling it i'll buy it when my budget allows. Like Seer said though, it is always a struggle between buying old albums which you know are seen as classics, and then newer stuff. I still haven't bought "It Takes A Nation Of Millions" by Public Enemy, cause everytime I see it there is always something else I want cheaper, and I know it will always be there cause it ain't rare or anything.

Yep.

I download pretty much nothing... my computer is such a nail that listening to clips on amazon is a chore :)

Besides, money aside, I just like having the physical CD with a case and inlay more than having some files on my hard drive...

... in terms of OG Cds, I've got hundreds of the fuckers... rack after rack and a five-foot book case from Argos ;D... music is the only thing I can imagine spending as much money on as I do and not view it as a waste...

yeah I used to be all about my collection up until a few months ago.  I just realized how much it costs me.  Money is tight these days so I gotta choose carefully what I spend it on.  damn I couldn't even imagine buying all the mixtapes and dvd's too.  I still will buy albums, but now I will definately not buy them just to complete my collection.  I used to buy all dpg affiliated albums, but not no more.  If your shit ain't dope as fuck then I'm not buying it.  Same goes for 2Pac.  He's dead, and not seeing any of the money, so I ain't buying any more of his albums.  that goes for any dead rapper infact.  If you're a dope ass young rapper though, still rappin from the heart, and I like your album then Ima buy it for sure.  Sellout rappers will never again get my money.

i only own og's .. barely download, just listen to ram files and shit, and then go buy the cd if its worth it. i own maybe only about a 100 og's. i used to own a shitload probably over 500+, but i used to constantly streamline my collection, until only the absolute necessarys were in there, and would sell the rest. nowadays i wont buy a cd unless the cd literally has to be dope as fuck. i can say that for the majority of my cds that i own, most of them are straight play through cds. in my opinion, i know good music . out of all ym friends, im always the fool playing the sickest shit and beats, and on a daily basis people always be asking me where i get my music and shit, and always compliment me on the taste in music that i have.

and i dont buy BARELY any new music, mostly older stuff, just trying to fill up the catalog of good music. the only new shit that i buy are from artists that i know are consistent with their shit, and are good..(mos def, talib, roots , etc)

i definitely dont fuck with any pac releases after he died, except for makaveli, and greatest hits, which are understandable. its straight up wack that they alter everything that pac created. they shoulda just upped the quality of the song somehow, but should never add any Extra features, or producers, or new beats. it just fucking destorys the original concept of the song. i kinda gave up on dpg too.. theyre all falling apart, and their new sounds dont resemble anything that got me hooked onto them in the first place. so im stuck in the 92-96 death row era, in fact im a huge fan of that era, and have many memorabilia that i collect. im a fanatic for music promotional posterrs & plat plaqiues... dont ask me why, but i collect that shit hardcore.
alright gettin off topic. haha

dammn. I don't work so i can't really afford to buy CD's or anything else whatsoever. i have well over 100 cd's burned, and probably about 20 authentic. the rest is downloaded from kazaa or napster(Back in da day). it's gonna be a while till i graduate high school, college, and then i'll probably not listen to as much music when i start working. Too bad for the RIAA.

i don't download anything, if only because i have 56k and no burner hooked up to my computer, but i also have to have the OG. Also, if i hear a lot of songs before the release, I'm less excited about the release. Recently my collection has grown a lot because the Wherehouses have closed (last week I got 17 CDs and a DVD for $60 because everything was 80% off) + dollar bins and half.com make it hard to resist. Since '91, my collection is:
500 hip hop CDs
150 hip hop vinyl singles + LPs
75 hip hop tapes
500 other CDs
720 other LPs
680 45s
200 other tapes

Like Lord Funk, music is the only thing I can think spending  as much money as I do that's not a waste

I have almost stopped buying West Coast DVDs though, $20 is a lot for something I'm maybe only going to watch twice.

I got like 500-600 OG cd's

I dont d/l music at all, i use too when the old napster was around but mostly to check how dope a certain rapper was, since then I buy all my CD's, theres no beating that feeling of opening a cd and playing it for the first time without d/l

yeah it is an expensive hobby but its so dope ;D, to save money i buy used cd's and when i want to buy a new cd i just go to Target,Circuit City or Best Buy, believe this will at least save u some gas money
I buy used cd's at the wherehouse or online at half.com or amazon

It sucks sometimes not to d/l though, for example the HI C cd has leaked and i have only heard like 2 songs from it and im waiting for it to get released, and who knows when thats gonna be :( :'(

@tnp.  Care to list some of the 17 cds you bought last week?  Unless of course it's the Duran Duran and Culture Club cds you were telling me about. ;D

If I feel like supporting the artist, I'll buy it, if the price is right. If I can't find it to download, I'll buy it. Other than that, I don't buy shit.
