2001: Most slept on year ever?
« on: December 25, 2003, 04:40:48 AM »
I was playin Bad Azz "Personal Business" today, I remember how much dope shit I was bumpin 2001 when I first got my car junior year, and especially in the summer, drivin everywhere thru L.A. with perfect west coast shit to go with it. I also remember makin a post on another rap board, sayin that there were five albums that were gonna put the west coast back on top. I listed:
1. Snoop - Da Last meal
2. Bad Azz - Personal Business
3. DPG - Dillinger and young gotti
4. Eastsidaz - Duces and Trays
5. Kurupt - Space boogie
I remember playin each of these albums and not at all bein dissapointed. However, these albums, plus a few more that came out that year, made little impact on the rap world, other that Snoop's album, and "I Luv it" on tha eastsidaz. Mainly because Kurupt put the absolutely worst song as the single, Bad Azz put out a track as the first single that was already on snoop, and DPG was independent, and it did well but didn't cause a global impact.
But I have 2 ask...am I the only one that thinks the west coast was COMPLETELY slept on that year? That was the year I realized that people weren't into the west as much, because these were all dope albums but people outside the west didn't respond to them as well. What else came out that year, Yukmouth, Nate Dogg, Warren G, Xzibit was the end of 2000 but got play and videos in 2001, and even the half assed DP 2002. But overall, I honestly think 2001 had the most solid and dope ass releases since 96, or maybe even 94.

All five are disapointments compared to their previous efforts and only listing 5 albums for one year is not a good thing.

tru, i wouldnt say i was disappointed in dillinger & young gotti tho, it was a solid release, course nuthin like dogg food but who'd seriously expected that?

and the others all had sum bangers on em, space boogie had one of the best beats ever 8on, onsite), last meal had shit like "lay low" on it and personal business and duces n trays werent bad either...but 5 albums aint enuff to call a year underrated...i dont think '01 was that bad tho

dillinger and young gotti is a classic imo

Those were just five albums I had listed, but u see futher below I listed a lot more albums that came out that year. But I wasn't really dissapointed with any of those five, especially Bad Azz.

Best album of 2001 that nobody ever mentions:

Chico & Coolwadda - Wild N the West

Short Khop's album was decent too.

I had Mono at the beggining of 2003, so I slept the most then.  I was fine in 2001.

"Return Of The Regulator" is my fav. release from 2001. Good year for the west. A lot of good albums that year.
