what albums did you download or buy that you expected very little from and ended up liking very much?

i would have to say the two that i really were surprised with were Bravhearts "Bravehearted" & Nappy Roots "Wooden Leather"

G-Unit. I only bought it 'cause it was a big release, and was much more hyped about Jay-Z that day ... but I seem to have ended up being one of the few people here who thought it was a great album, and I've listened to it a lot more than The Black Album since...

Immortal Technique - Revolutionary vol.2

I hardly expected anything, with all these overrated, yet unknown underground acts..
Turned out to be one of the best albums of 2003 for me..

The Last Emperor's. I expected it to be good but it was way better than I expected.

Most hip-hop is now keyboard driven, because the majority of hip-hop workstations have loops and patches that enable somebody with marginal skills to put tracks together,...

Unfortunately, most hip-hop artists gravitated towards the path of least resistance by relying on these pre-set patches. As a result, electric guitar and real musicians became devalued, and a lot of hip-hop now sounds the same.

"The Book Of Shabazz" 8) Although I loved him for his part on Gravediggaz' "Diary Of A Mad Man" I was disappointed by some songs he threw out after that. So I haven't expected much when I downloaded it, but it's straight fire, I finally bought it.
