yup that all fair.. but this board is NOT a direct link to illegal music, and wont become such.

and btw.. the 'other guy' posting on this thread, altho he dont post much is b-please who used to run wckillaz.com.. me and him started this board.. nearly 3 years ago ;) (boards birthday is real soon)

irc is a public place.  so if someone posts a link in a public irc channel, you are free to repost it wherever the fuck you want.

Yeah man, I respect that and it won't happen again. However, what about links to mixtapes since they are promotional items? I mean I haven't got any links to post as such, but wondered about the rules? Oh yeah, and congrats on the board's birthday. :D
B!tCH PleAsE!, I dunno if you are targeting me directly here, but I feel that your negative attitude towards me ain't really necessary. I took off the link, no harm done. And I KNOW I'm not the only one who has posted links to entire albums before. I haven't been a member for so long but I have seen it happen on more than one occasion (naming no names of course ;) ). So yeah, I apologise for linking the album, hopefully you can accept it...

yup... and giving details to them in IRC is fine.

but posting direct links to download locations is dodgy as hell.

i dont mind the odd mp3.. but whole album rips.. no way.

read the rules here just so u can see this hasnt just come up.

Wait a minute. Isn't that saying that if I had seen that link in IRC I could post it up in forums like this (don't worry dudes I won't and I can see why not! :P ) since I was reposting a link. I'm just confused by that statement...

Just think about it and you'll see why I was negative about it. It's not personal, but It's a touchy subject for me because I work with independant artists like Lil' C-Style and I know how much damage that one tiny link can cause. Lables like 4life and other small indy labels depend on the internet and the fanbase they create to sell their albums. When shit gets ripped and spread around like nothing it makes a HUGE impact weather u think it does or not.

posting that its in such and such a channel is fine...

for example.. u can say u can get lil c style in #bay2la on efnet..

but.. posting a link to an ftp isnt ok. whether u saw it in irc or what.

weblinks + ftp links for albums = bad

Overseer, I see and understand your rules. All I was saying is that I did not understand nibs quote about being allowed to repost links seen in IRC. At the end of the day however, posting that an album is available on mIRC  is to a lesser extent still supporting piracy. It is giving a less detailed and harder to access link to where you can download said album for free. That said, I completely acknowledge that mIRC is not as directly available to as many people as internet links. Like I said in my previous post, I will not contribute further to the details of where to find entire album links ''...and I can see why not''.

B!tCH PleAsE, I hear you loud and clear. It was wrong to post the link, especially for an artist like C Stle who is going independant and one less unit sold makes a bigger difference to that of a big star musician - hence the Snoop Dogg comment in the first post at the top  ;D

However, I'm NOT saying I agree with it but I do stand by the fact that I have seen links to FTP's reprinted on DubCC to entire albums...I certainly made a mistake, but I wasn't the first to do so...

ya also shouldnt be spreading details of something that aint yours to spread without permission.. not that it'll last long now the details are everywhere..

if the information was posted in a public irc channel dude is free to repost it wherever he wants.

now, if you are saying that this forum has a policy against posting links to ftp sites with albums, that's a different issue altogether.  the maintainers of this site can set whatever rules they'd like.  but that is a separate issue.

or was that link posted on another board? which is what i thought it was.

the main thing is.. direct links on site to other sites can cause sites to be seen as a source for mp3s and sites have been shut down for it. saying "You can get it in #freemp3sforall" is fine because you cant just "click and download" its a totally seperate.. yes the cops/riaa etc are stupid... but its a fact, and its why i've written the rules the way there are.. go look.

and yeah.. since i am 'the owner/bill payer/maintainer'. I make the rules. ;)
