chill with the caps ::)

anyways, the most underrated IMO, is Tash

of course, u have rappers like Zion, Motion Man and Wildchild, that should get way more props for their work
BUT, not many people have actually heard of Zion, motion man or Wildchild, so its quite imposible for them to be underrated, if they arent even rated

Tash tho, got enough exposure for people to not sleep on him, yet they do, so IMO hes the most underrated

My man Yukmouth. He brings a solid album ('Godzilla'), the tight (radio-friendly) first single that is 'Nothin 2 A Bo$$', and is part of a big, well known and fairly powerful label like Rap-A-Lot. Yet, for some reason people still slept on that release. Its a shame because Yuk really has the ability to blow given the right promotion, if you ask me...

This is a veeery hard question, because if u ask me, 95% of the rappers from the West are underrated, if not straight out unknown.

I'd say Crooked I, Yukmouth, Ras Kass, Tash, Sly Boogy, are more unknown than they are underrated. I know most of you all will disagree with that but I am pretty sure that I am right. True, we all have heard of them, and many other people u kno have heard of them, but on a commercial scale, they are basically unknown. If u go up to 50 black high school or college aged females, and you aren't in CA, I bet u that maybe 5 of them could actually identify with the rapper and a song they are on. 10-20 might say "I have heard of them" but you would have to say "Yuk is from Luniz, remember I got five on it?" etc then they'd say "oh yeah, I donno his songs tho." True, Tash got exposure, but most people who paid attention to him recognize his talent. At the same time, I'd say they aren't exactly underrated because most people who hear them will admit that they are tight, which means they are more unknown than underrated.

Now for those who are underrated, which means people know of them, but don't think much of them...I'd say Bad Azz is one. Almost everbody in the nation has heard of him, and knows some of the songs he has done, but they just don't think he is that good because they paid more attention to Snoop bein on the songs than Bad Azz. Now when u play somebody the whole Bad Azz album they'll be like "Oh shit, he is tite!"

The most underrated of all time to me is DJ Quik. People on the west, and some others, realize how dope he is. But if I told somebody from Florida or NY that Quik is better than Dre, or he is damm near close, they'd be like "what???? yeah right!!!!!" Most people have heard Quik or some of his songs, but at the same time, they just don't see how dope he is. I realize Dre's style of music appeals more to people in other regions but at the same time, if Quik's style or just Quik in general had been promoted more, then he would get the same respect as Dre. Also, Dre works with muuuuch better and more respected artists than Quik.

Where r u from? Thing is, people rarely recognize special guests who are unknown on a known rapper's song. I know soooo many songs where people will sing them over and over, and if u are like "Baby S is tite" they will say "Whos that?" I'll say "The dude on the 2nd verse of We can freak it" and they are like "ohhhhhh him? i didn't know who he was" u get what I am sayin.

He got most exposure havin the track "Rap Life" and people were feelin that one, but even then, a lot of people paid more attention to the track than to Tash.

Gotta agree with you, Tash is definitely underrated, but I think Quik is the most underrated...Dre's productions are somewhat more polished, but come on who really makes timeless songs all the time, perfect for playin at 2 in the morning on the freeway, at a sunday barbecue, on your ride home, at home, wherever...gotta be the Quiksta.

Sorry bro, cant feel ya on the backpack stuff though, not that some of them aren't dope MC's but hardly any of them are very entertaining...I can only listen to so much "I'm the dopest MC" and "you dont wanna battle me" and "bring the real hip hop back" before I go nuts!!!

True. But I do think it's important that the Box,wich is likely the Netherland's most popular music channel rarely mention guests on tracks. For rappers like Snoop, this isn't a problem because near everyone knows them but for littleknown rappers this is quite disastrous for their promotion. Also, many people don't care about guests (even less producers) so they find it strange these are important to us rapfans.

The Box is DEFINTELY not the most popular music channel in here.
They show love though, GangStarr was Urban Alert for a week.

thats allright, its alll opinionated, but, i wanne add, Wildchild's album was a more of a "bring mainstream listeners to the underground" typa record, it had quite the amount of party music
and Zion I's record was more of, hmm, concious record, but it even touched some topics on an emotional tip, the underground is more diverse than some think it is

and, the Box was a pretty dope channel, but its not the same anymore,El-P got soo much exposure, it was crazy, do the dutch heads over here remember that one video by El-P? deep space 9mm? (the video wit the white getting all those red guns pointed at his head all the time) shiit, they played that video a lot!

even Mr Lif got some exposure with "Return Of The B-Boy"(such a classic song), i really liked the box for some time, but now they play all that weird foreign r&b lol, so now i stopped diggin it
