Northstar Show Review

Who said Eastside Long Beach was the only place with talent? Well, it's obvious now that the Northside is storming into the game and shaking it up. Last night in Malibu at the Malibu Inn, Northstar along with Da Mon Star Mob and A Tribe Called Quest, which was in reality only Phife and Jarobi, tore the place down. First up to bat was Da Mon Star Mob, straight out of Northside Long Beach. Anyone who frequents Project Blowed will be familiar with this 4 man crew. Equipped with sharp and fierce lyrics, over extremely dark beats, they ripped their set. Considering they're virtually unknown to a majority of the crowd, they had great crowd control and participation. Though only a 6 song set, it was more than enough to win over the place, and more than enough groupies. Any info you want on Da Mon Star Mob, check out their Official Site.

Next was another crew from the Northside of the LB, the West Coast Killa Bees themselves Northstar, with members of the Black Knights in the house, too. Their boy Midnight introduced them and acted as hype man. He was a pretty funny guy. They did "Destiny," "Ducky," "So So Serious," "64," "Red Rum," "Crazy," "Luv Allah," among other tracks. Christ and Meko were full of energy. Jumping into the crowd, climbing on top of speakers and much more. Without a doubt, their show was heated. At the end of their set, a member of the Black Knights ripped a hot freestyle. Once the stage was cleared, Midnight grabbed the mic and asked if the crowd wanted him to make some contraversy. Of course everyone wanted that, so he started talking shit. He said "Fuck 50, fuck Ja Rule, fuck Eminem, fuck Dre, fuck Aftermath...we going at their necks!" That got the crowd hype. Very good show. For all your Northstar needs check out Northstar's site.

Phife Dawg and Jarobi were up next. They kept the vibe hype. Hitting us off with "Scenario," "Hot Sex," "Award Tour," "Find A Way," "Bonita Applebum," "Can I Kick It?" and much more. Phife did a couple freestyles which were pretty hot. He also did a couple cuts off his new album, they sounded pretty good. It's gonna be called Songs In The Key Of Phife or something very similar to that. The best part of his set, to me, was when he shouted out all of the people we've lost in Hip Hop. Aside from the obvious, they dropped Bigga B. That man was responsible for L.A. Underground Hip Hop progressing the way it did. It was good to see someone shout him out. He also announced that November of this year will be the drop date for the new Tribe album. So, for all you Tribe fans, pick that up. He had a nice set, the crowd was very responsive.

At the end of the night they had a whole bunch of girls from the crowd dancing up on stage. That was a nice treat, then Malibu PD shut it down. Overall, it was a great show. The Malibu Inn was a good spot for a show. It was small so the performances were felt a lot more. For any interested KRS-One will be performing there on the 26th of this month. Props to Juda Starr for putting together a great show.

RZA didn't turn up in the end then?

I forgot which Black Knights were there. There was alot of people on stage. And yea, Rza didn't show. Maybe he was backstage, but he didn't come out. They said Project Blowed was there(so I was expecting Aceyalone and them to come out), but they didn't.
